T31 Rear Hatch

Hi All,
Had my T31 a month or so, and apart from the long term projects I'll be doing some little mods I wonder if others have done or considered, and any pit falls to avoid.

Mod 1: Rear hatch - Increase the stroke length of the struts Will putting shims under the strut anchoring points be enough? as I keep clunking my head:doh

Mod 2: Set of steel wheels with tyres - for Winter use, and occasion off-roading...Suggested sizes and off set without having to mod wings etc.

Is there enough spare closed capacity in the struts that you'll still be able to close it with it shimmed out?

Not sure on the wheels, what size you on at the moment? Even ATs will be slightly bigger than road tyres.

What offset are your current wheels?

I'll get back to you on the wheels, but currently stock 215x60x17 alloys (yuck)..the offset I don't know yet, but I will find out.

The struts have a little room, but I'll do a trial and error and report back :thumbs

The standard alloy wheel have a positive offset of 40mm.

I will be putting the new steel wheels with no offset and big tyres on tomorrow... I will let you know how that goes. (We have put a lift on, but I feel we've been robbed of 10mm!)

You might find that no offset causes the inside of the rim to catch the brake calipers - you can always put a thin spacer in to fix that if you are okay with spacers and fit longer bolts /studs.

Positive offset means the rim sits more over the calipers so 0 offset won't cause an issue with the calipers dude.

Correct, no issues with callipers, but we do have a bit of rubbing before the wheel reaches full lock!

I'll sort that out! :naughty
