Hi everyone I am new to the forum, I have a T30 X-trail WN05UGK a real peach or so I thought, 1 owner full Nissan History and only 80k miles. Recently the turbo failed and it ran for a short time on its own oil. Recovered home swapped out the turbo with a good re-manufactured one from atom replaced the oil pipes and fuel filter and new inter-cooler. while i was at it I swapped out the SCV valve as was suspecting mine prior to he accident.

It started straight away with no issues but if I am heavy with the throttle it knocks severely. I just put an additive in but am now out of ideas any help would be appreciated.

When the turbo "failed" did it stay intact?? or what "failed"??

What are your oil levels like?
If there is an oil starvation problem and your turbo got starved then i'd be checking my oil was getting to the rest of the engine to start with.

some common issues appear to be timing chain tensioner - check the chain first.

saw a thread telling a fella to check all the heat shields, which you most likely had to play around with fitting new bits??

http://baustralianxtrail.runboard.com/t127779,offset=40#post2051039 -video with timing chain noise - is that what your hearing?

i'd highly recommend not driving it until the knock is diagnosed.

Cheers
Dave

When it "Ran away" did it over rev, if so might well have done more serious engine damage, I for one would be having the sump off for a look see, Rick

few more details

Hi Dave

thanks for the reply, the turbo stayed intact, the bearing went from what my mechanic could see and the oil was really low after the event. The tap is much worse under load and my first instinct was bottom end but it is accompanied by a small bit of smoke which also suggested injector.

I cant see how frying the engine would affect the injector.

The vehicle is a 1 owner full Nissan service history 79k miler and had a new intercooler last year and now has a new Turbo from atom along with pipes and fuel filter so it seems a shame to have to sell her on but I am in to my max nearly now.

It goes like a train, however it taps badly under load as I said.

and yes Rick it ran away until it ran out of oil as my brother who was driving had never seen this before and didn't know to stall it

Dave
