Anyone ideas? Yesterday evening I parked my swb T2 at the local sports centre, had to go to a meeting there. It wouldn't lock with the remote key.

Locked OK from within the car, but with the remote it only flashed the indicator lights. Drove it back home, at home no problem at all anymore.
I used the other car in the end, as I don't want to leave it unattended and unlocked, with all my shooting gear in the back.

Could be some interference from a nearby transmitter blocking the signal but as the indicators flashed it doubt it.

I wouldn't worry to much about it, Locked fine with the key it's still locked.

Mine wouldn't lock at work a few weeks back, I suspect battery is on it's way out on the keyfob. But it's still working. :nenau

Forgot to mention, did not want to lock with the key either. I suspect because the key is quite worn, you can in fact take it out of the contact while the engine is running without cutting out the engine.

Sounds like the mechanism was possibly stuck, might need some lube, once you physically forced it it obviously clicked.

I suspect something was stuck :thumb2

If one of the doors, boot or bonnet were not shut properly, it does that... well on mine anyway. If you do it a second time though, it normally locks OK.

I recently added some compressible foam strips at the rear door, to stop water leaking in. Might have been that maybe?

Worth a check... On mine, it is normally when Suz gets out and then goes into the back door, which is not used very often, so needs a bit more of a push to close it. I normally notice as like you say, it does not lock, so I press it again, and it locks, but the interior lights stay on, so I have to take a walk round the car, and bingo... She says it is because I moan when she slams the door!!!

It was only me using it yesterday...
I'll check tonight for proper closure of the rear door. Strange thing is it closed properly when parked in front of the house.

Have you tried to lock/unlock with the remote at home ? reason I ask more & more people are getting the remote jammers:doh Know a lad with one, he switched it on without me knowing he had it & I thought my remote had died as the doors wouldn't open:doh

At home it worked, yesterday evening in another location it worked as well. Will check again this weekend in the place where it did not work.

Found out what caused it - not interference in any case!

The key of the car is quite worn, so it is possible to remove the key from the contact even when the contact is not completely switched off (not turned all the way left).
In that case the car does not lock with the keys or the remote.

Simple solution: always turn the key all the way to the left before removing it...

Time to replace the key, maybe the barrel too...

A lot of members on this site have only one key, old worn keys also start to crack and eventually will shear off in the lock.:doh

So inspect your key(s) I used the main one for many years, then noticed that a small crack started to appear across the key, so I got the second key, that had not been used, and had a spare key cut cut from that.

Now mine is a 1995 version, so no imobiliser, so cheap as chips.

Also when we are going out beyond just local journeys, both my wife and myself carry a key.
You might break one, you might loose one, or you want to get back to the car at different times...
We found out that keys do not float, but when we dropped them in the canal once, I used the recovery magnet, so after few minutes fishing, I soon recovered them lol...

Hanging a bunch of keys from the ignition switch can rapidly increase the wear and tear on the key and the lock mechanism. I have fitted those quick release devices, one on the car key, and the other matching part on the house keys, so house keys in my pocket, and when leaving the car, snap them together, so you can find both.

Good tip rustic! I'll look into having a new key made, the spare one looks better. I only use the most worn one in any case.

Glad you've sussed it out mate :thumb2

Get some spare blades cut pronto, I have 4 for the Terrano on Valeo blades and also have a mate who thinks he can copy my transponder for £20 a pop :sly

Transponder copy not needed, the transponder is in a separate "pod" from the key.
