Hi All,
I've brought a new spare key as the old one was frazzled. Not sure which model Nissan it was from but it seems exactly the same as my original key.
So it should be just a matter of re-programming shouldn't it?
I get in the car using the original key, turn ignition on 6 times and get the two flashes of the indicators to show its in set up mode. But then Nothing!
My question is:
Should I be able to set up the original key and get an acknowledment from the car?
I ask this because I've tried it and get nothing using the original key nor does the new key have any effect?
The original key works fine but the new one does not.
Confused of Leeds
Any help would be gratefully appreciated
Thanks
Dave

Hi Dave, think the setup you are going into is for the Alarm Remote Fob's. The key's have to be setup using a Genuine Nissan Consult machine I think which will mean stealer prices. The key transponder is a different beast to the Fob.

Hi Jim thanks for that. Is the transponder the little blue bit inside at the bottom of the key blade.
The alarm fob is the main part of the key with the two plipper buttons, even so surely the car should acknowledge the fob?
Summats wrong but I cant work out what?
I don't want to send the 'new' key back because it doesn't work if there's nothing wrong with it.

From your explanation your not properly completing the set up process.

I think (from memory) that you have to hold the unlock button, and press the lock button three times, then release all buttons. Then your indicators should flash once to confirm synchronisation. Key in ignition all the time. Bit fiddly to do.

There is a download for this somewhere.

Its a lot easier to stand outside the truck when doing it. Print out the workshop on it and keep it on the front seat while you're doing it.David.

Sounds like yours is the later model Terrano. The earlier does have a seperate Fob and Transponder key (red dot in this type).

The way I see it is that you have the remote buttons for the locking and alarm and also the key transponder. I'm still not sure that the reset you were trying to do actually resets the transponder in the key.

I could be wrong but as far as I'm aware the only reset that you can do is the locking/alarm buttons. The Key Transponder still has to be reset at a dealer using the plug in diagnostic machine.

Hi All,
Thanks for advice so far. I'm using the download and I'm doing all the right things, get two flashes from the indicators as the car goes into set up mode, then holding down the lock button while pressing the unlock button three times then releasing, but even with the working key I get no flash from the indicators, the key still works fine though!
I gather that the car recognises the transponder and not the other way around, so thats why you have to press the buttons on the key fob to transmit its own code to the car.
As its sunny I'll go out and try again.

Hi All,
I've done it! It was me being a slow coach. Was trying to be deliberate when pressing the plipper and left a space between each press so got nothing, I just pressed it three times quite quickly and got the flash from the indicators. Now have two keys that work.
Yayyyy!:lol
