In my quest for squeezing performance out of the truck, I’ve turned my attention towards fans.

Based on previous comments and discussions on here I am contemplating getting rid of the viscous fan and installing a Kenlowe electric fan for the rad. I also want to install an intercooler fan.

On plan of action I have dreamt up would be to have them both wired to the same temp sensor system, the logic behind that being that once everything warms up both kick in and do their thing, when ambient temp is low they remain still.

I hope to squeeze an extra mpg out as well as a tad better performance.

Kenlowe do the rad cooling fan kit for around £160. I can get a slim line Kenlowe off ebay to fit the intercooler for less than £40 to go in in parallel. I’m more than happy to make up a wiring loom with relays etc to suit.

Are there any other alternative kits and bits out there?

Your thoughts, advice and experiences would be welcome.

Thanks

Dave

Hi Dave,

Pacet do electric fans but i think kenlowe are generally cheaper

I would put a seperate adjustable sender for the intercooler fan to cut in before the cooling fan as you would not get the benifit if it only cut in when cooling the rad.

Only my opinion though

Yes, really needs to pick up on intake temperature rather than coolant temperature.

What he said...

My 10" i/c fan is fed from an ignition controlled supply, through a 50deg c thermostat on the intake manifold, so it only comes on at that temp.

Definately helps keep heat soak away and better response when driving slowly..

Thanks all, Tim: thats very interesting, how did you arrive at the 50deg figure and where/how exactly is the thermostat fitted on? what bits did you use and where did you get them from? questions questions questions 8O but thanks in advance  The intercooler fan is next on my hit list of jobs

if you have any pics of the installation please point me towards them or email them to me , [email protected]

cheers

Dave

Hi, the thermal switch- i used the NO 50deg c one from CPC:

A good intercooler system would keep charge temp down to a max of 20 deg over ambient, and after alittle experiementation whereby the fan doesnt run excessively when the car is stationary, i used the 50deg c one.

a regular 10" PUSHER fan fits perfectly within the intercooler shroud and still seals nicely when the bonnet is shut.

sounsd like a good idea...

i was thinking about the intercooler one.

maybe when you get around to doing it, a few pics would be intresting.

I'm now looking for a fan at the right price  ebay here I come.

Just spotted a 10'' slimline kenlowe for £37.95 or best offer. How much would anyone offer? I'm tempted by £30

Yet another question , your collective help is much appreciated -welldone- -welldone-

For the coolant fan, has anyone sourced their own temp sensor/thermostat. If so I presume it was a normally open, what temp did you reckon was best for closed (ie the fan kicks in) ?????????

I've just realised I can do all of this mega cheaper than Kenlowe kits.

Cheers
