Found I have a seized o/s handbrake cable on the T2. Removed the end from the equaliser bar, removed the mounting bolts (well sheared them anyway) but I cannot get the end out of the backplate. I already have the shoes off and a new cable on order. (Tried oiling it - no luck)

I'm sure anyone who has replaced this cable knows how it comes out. Is it a push fit and I'm just not hitting it hard enough or is there another way to remove this?.

I really cannot remember if there is a circlip on the inside of the back plate or not, if there is it will be clearly visible, if not hit it harder, Rick

Whoops just noticed yours is a 2001, and if like Alexe's it is different, but cable should be a similar set up, Rick

I removed the circlip or rather it disintergrated and fell off but the cable sheath fitting is rock solid in the backplate. I've soaked it in penetrating oil but can't move or twist it.

I'm sure every p**** nut, bolt, bracket or fitting on this truck was tightened by The Hulk and then soaked in salt water solution. :augie

As the cable sits in the backplate it sits in a round thing which is part of the backplate. When I did mine I hit it out from the shoe side but I hit the round part out too and had he'll trying to get it off the end of the cable. Get a good set of grips on the cable just before it goes into the backplate and work it back and 4 with lots of lube , I had he'll with mine and that an 04 plate. Every time I do a job on mine something snaps or I have to cut a part of to replace it, sometimes I with I got an x trail but other times I love her.

The round thing acts as a reducer as without it the hole is too big.

To get the spring and end blob out through the backplate the size of the hole will need to be at least 10mm which is about the diameter of the metal bit sticking through to the shoe side of the backplate. So I will work on the cable from both sides, twisting rather than exercising Mr Hammer.

Pick up the replacement cable about 11.30 so will see then what I'm supposed to remove. These cables are not cheap are they - and thats not even from Nissan.

Yeah pull it to words the front of the car with lots of twisting but avoid the hammer as I had to weld the collar thing back in. Good luck with it mate.:thumb2

That's the one thing I hate about these trucks the jap cr*p steel used for nuts & bolts as it's far to soft steel which always sheers off once a ting bit of rust sets in:doh

I didn't know what a heli coil was until I got my terrano :lol
