again in my humble opinion , a leccy fan will not address the main issue you appear to have

I have never seen a T2 temp gauge that high and i do some pretty heavy duty towing.
You're not trying hard enough :lol
I use two fans progressively switched according to temp.
Agreed all the points raised about clean rad, thermo etc.
However there must be something wrong with 96terrano's truck I think:augie
Mine will take a proper thrashing off road and not get hot, unless I leave the fans off all together :lol
I've seen lots of offroad racer trucks all using elec fans and think some of the failings on the std truck conversions are due to all the air flow restrictions.
I've virtually no front grill, no inner cowls at all, and no under wing plastic/rubber stuff. So I get loads of air flow before the fan/s come in :thumb2
I'm messing about with the lpg and turbo at the mo and have been properly pushing it. So I've fitted the viscous back on for a trial.
So far it seems a pain tbh. Damn thing's always roaring away:doh
I've got new water pump and so haven't had time to cut off the viscous lump.
If it stops raining long enough it days are numbered :sly

we built the shed up, filled the rad up with water and set off the 8 miles out the town as the 2nd AA truck wouldnt be able to get into the town. the water just ran out so we drove slow at a low rpm and every so often stoped to fill it back up. we stoped in the middle of a forest we were waiting for the AA for about 4 hours:eek: it was about 10pm to 1am

I does pay to check all your cooling system before the summer, especially as they predict (probably incorrectly!) as it being a hot one.

Flush the system, new coolant, check stats etc.......and if you go off road in the muddy stuff, Clean the rad! - you would be amazed how many 'farm' cars I used to recover with blown gaskets, and you find the rad fins full of mud.

Better than waiting roadside...and you can guarantee, the time you break down, will be on a peak bank holiday weekend!

I'm also trying out "water wetter" at the mo too :thumb2
Says on the can it reduces temp by as much as 15 degrees :naughty

the rad was in bad nick. the cooling fins had corroded. you could touch them and thay would just fall apart. the new rad is from the slightly bigger TDI model

looking at the pics of the trailer and it's load your T2 should tow that no problem :thumb2

the water system was filled with rusty water:eek::eek: so when we changed the rad, we flushed the system changed all the hoses and everything is perfect now. the temp used to be at the half way mark now with the new rad it sits at quater way:clap:D

it was just under two ton i think

it was just under two ton i think

I tow a lot of trailers and I would hazard a guess that the trailer and it's load was closer to a ton, unless of course there was loads of sand and slabs in the bottom out of sight? The largest and heaviest Brian James 'Cargo shifter is around 700k (most are about 500K) and the shed wouldn't weigh half a ton.

I regularly tow the full 2.8 ton capacity and have never had overheating issues, with this TDI or previous TD's. I think now you have changed your rad it should be fine :thumb2

have faith in the old girl :thumb2
