Are Electric fan conversions hard to do to a 2.7td? I was thinking of mounting a fan to the front of the rad, running wires through under the dash to a swich then to the battery in a cercuit. Any ideas? I've done a lot with electrics so nothing should short out and blow up:lol:doh

Checkout timbo's install for the pro way of doing it or mine for the DIY version :lol

...or the thread that says "it was great until I towed, then the engine boiled so I refitted the viscous fan and never had another problem...".

Not knocking people who've done it but why? Maybe you'll save 0.25hp from not having the viscous fan? Hardly worth a light on a torquey motor is it?

Cooling problems? Won't be ANYTHING to do with the existing fan unless it or the shroud are busted....look elsewhere.

You know me - just like a bit of light and shade....:lol

Ignore mr grumpy, he's obviously not getting any at the mo :lol
I'll have that extra horse power please and enjoy much quietness too:lol :thumbs
HOWEVER it is a lot of faff really. I did mine originally for a bit of extra (small) acceleration and because I've got all the plastic cowl muck off so I can easily hose off all the mud that would otherwise become as hard as china
Then no viscous or electric fan will cool you down :p
If you do do it, put the fan on the inside so air can easily get through the rad first :thumbs

i have such a twin fan proper fit (so im told) for a terrano , coincidently its for sale too

so you get the 2 fans and the shroud all in one . open to offers

50p and a used 1st class stamp :augie

the reason i thought about it is because i got a spare toyota yaris fan:D

i'd leave as stock, think the roar of the fan gives character.

was experimenting with troll last summer, til read on oz site
that stock fan creates or uses about a quarter of a hp, ok
slight loss on a 100 hp lump but this equates to several
hundred Watts, which when push comes to shove an elecy
fan cant even dream of making.

also even on kenlowe site they often say for heavy use and
european towing using the vicous fan as elecy doesnt cut it.

Good point, that 0.25 horse power does prove that it's one hell of a cooling fan, and you are right it would take a pretty big fan and motor to match that - proper lateral thinking that is :thumb2

the other reason i wanted to put a electric fan in is because when towing eg a long distance it gets a bit warmer so when stoped with the engine off theres still cool air blowing over.

for instance we pulled a trailer with a shed on it about 200 miles and this happend

i would be delving into other things first mate:

is you thermostat OK?

radiator clear and free of mud and dirt?

viscous coupling working?

I have never seen a T2 temp gauge that high and i do some pretty heavy duty towing.

a good point though, how did you get the engine that hot and use so little fuel doing it? :nenau

even towing it shouldnt get that hot ( in my humble opinion )

id be looking at coolant level /condition

leaks in pipes

faulty or stuck thermostat

fan not working

water pump not working correctly

and finally ...... little bubbles in your expansion tank
