Clutch fitting costs

Hi,

I had a new clutch release arm fitted to my last Terrano, same sort of job as gearbox has to come out completely.
My local garage charged me £175 labour to do the job, (I supplied the parts)
The mechanic said he thoroughly enjoyed the job, something he could get his teeth into.

I think you are being well over charged shop around, there has to be better deals near you.

as a furthur example, I just got off the phone to the chap over here in Queensbury, £150 labour, I supply the clutch at £123 delivered from Milners. The guy didnt even hesitate or suck in all the worlds oxygen, just "itll be £150 labour"

You would have to have all the kit and be handy with the spanners on a lift with an assistant (at times) to change a clutch on these in 4hrs...

aye, chaps a gearbox and clutch specialist, so yeah, he's got the skillz!

Assume he is going to do a decent job replacing all the bolts etc. I've seen more than one car with several bellhousing bolts missing following a "mr clutch" type visit...

oh itll be fine, Neil has an excellent reputation and has fixed Jims, Martins, and a few of my mates cars. He's not a franchise garage, and they do work on all sorts of vehicles from cars to trucks. Should be a same day turn around too, but I'll certainly pay attention to the bolts etc and ensure its done right.:thumbs

my mechanid did mine single handed with slave cylinder flexi pipe in 4 hrs. i know it was 4 hours cos i dropped it off at 8 and just after 12 i went in to help bleed clutch. i was outside rendering his workshop.

ive found a local guy deals only in 4x4s popped in for a quote he said £250 i was verry happy with that & its very convienient for me, he also noticed it was sat little low on the front & said he would ajust them torsion bars same time so i found someone not only reasonable on price knows how there screwed together too....... hope you get your clutch sorted clivvy !!

i would say £200 tops on labour. i hate the job as they are heavy and awkward taking off torsion bars etc but i can do it in a day with no lift. put it this way - i wouldnt mind £700 for a days sweat!!! i wouldnt entertain anything close to 700, they are taking the piss.

when i first got the quote i almost fell over but ive never priced up a clutch before on my terrano so i didnt know if it was the going rate ! but i persivered each time i enquired at different garages i found the bill getting less , eventually a local guy does 4x4s quoted £200 so he,s getting the job:lol as for the guy who quoted 700 saying there a b...... to do & its gotta be worth his time i wont be visiting him again , as you say its taking the piss hope he goes bust :bow

yeah this is it clivvy , all too many garages today like to pick & choose there work (wish i could) then suddenly there offered work cant be bothered THERE A NIGHTMARE THESE :doh GEARBOX WEIGHS A TON ETC ETC at this point you know this guy aint bothered the slightest ! & tops your bill to the highest point AS IF IM OVERWHELMED WITH THIS SORT OF PATTER! god only knows what sort of service the cars gonna get:doh ITS MY FAULT I SHOULD HAVE GONE IN A MOGGY MINOR !!!
