Can anyone help? - Daughter flattened battery whilst trying to start. Took battery out and is now fully charged but vehicle will turn but won't start. Am I correct in thinking the immobilizer has locked and won't allow the car to start? (had a similar problem with a Clio) If so will the Clio fix work? - turn ignition key fully then connect battery?

Thanks for your help - want to be prepared before I drive to her house and try to get it going.

Is it turning over fast or slow, hasd the same problem last week, ended up with a recon starter.

If immob, then the red LED will be flashing quickly when trying to start. - try 2nd key.

Are you sure the glows are kicking in?

Heater light on dash stays on for about 5 secs then goes out. Turns over quite quickly but am worried I'll flatten the battery again.

Am I barking up the wrong path re the immobilizer? (Second key is u/s - am waiting to solder on two new buttons)

Wait till glow plug light goes out and then wait a while longer so that it carries on heating before turning over.

If it is turning over slowly then it may well be either battery terminal loose where the thick cables attach. Also positive cable to starter may be mucky, same with the earth on to the engine. If these are all OK then it may be like mine the starter motor.

You could also try jumping from another car battery and if this also doesnt change starter speed then it's another pointer towards starter.

Just back from daughters house - used fully charged battery which at first gave a reasonable turnover speed but after a few goes the turnover rate declined. Also connected via jumpers to my van but same effect. Looks like the starter motor or connections to it may be suspect.

Many thanks for taking time out of your New Years Day to offer assistance. (Battery is from Halfrauds and is just under three years old)

Thats the same as what happened to ours, took the starter out and had it tested, cost £70 to get recon.

Two types of starter Bosch which has a cowl around the gear and Hitachi which doesn't have the cowl. People have fitted either as the important thing is the amount of teeth on the gear. It should say the manufacturer on the side.

PS several threads on this subject if you look around which may help.

Thanks for the replies everyone - her hubby managed to start it with a tow - started at first attempt. They will drive it down to me tomorrow and I'll start to check it out.
