Hi guys,
Thought I would share some fuel consumption figures.
Having over the last week or so, covered a lot of miles, in too few days, all in the cause of supporting various members of my family.
First trip from home in mid France to ferry in north Brittany.....750 kilometers....about 450 odd miles, Plymouth to Edinburgh, back to Swansea.....over 800 miles, probably about 1500 by the time I get back to Plymouth, before the ferry back and return drive home.
Overall mpg, at motorway speeds of 80 on the clock (allowing for error, actual about 75/6) is 31.5 mpg. Reckon for this tractor, not too bad.....any thoughts guys ?

I'd be happy with that TBH considering yours is an auto & the speed in which you were traveling at:thumb2 I know with the 2.7's once you get over 2.5k revs they start drinking more not sure if this is the same with the 3L

That's good to know, I think.. I've been logging the milage and litres used for a couple of weeks and I'm going to sit down with my calculator after a month. Then I'm going to add 2 stroke oil at 1/200 mix for a month to see what happens. :-o
I was hoping for at least 25mpg general driving but we'll see soon enough.

I checked my fuel consumption yesterday (2.7 TDi) after using two stroke oil, 29.55mpg.:thumb2
I put 350ml of two stroke oil to a full tank (approx 100ml per 20 litres of diesel) and it definitely felt better and quieter.

I use this site for calculation: http://www.torquecars.com/tools/uk-mpg-calculator.php

I just put the litres and the miles in and click calculate.:thumbs

Thanks guys, I was wondering about the 2 stroke thing, as I always have it lying around f9r the saws etc. I thought I saw on some threads that the 3ltr didn't like anything but straight (as opposed to gay that is....)diesel....?

It's veg that the 3.0 doesn't like (far as I know anyway) 2 stroke is fine as at 200:1 it's just a very small amount and it mixs in no problem :thumb2 (no problems in mine so far anyway, touch wood! :lol)

But... I understand mineral 2 stroke is the best for mixing with the diesel, I'm sure I read somewhere that synthetic can or does cause issues. Mineral is cheaper anyway.

OK, sorry to be a total numpty here, but having thought about it....what are the benefits of mixing 2t into my diesel.....?
Sorry if this is a stupid question.....

There's something they've taken out of diesel that 2 stroke oil can replace. Now had a quick look for the link on here about it but all the words are blurring into each other :-/
Goodnight...

OK guys, just had some spare time(!!!!), and browsed tinternet, and find that it does seem to replace stuff taken out to meet emission regs. Better starting, less smoke, possible slight improvement in mpg. DPF seem sensitive to this alteration in materials, but well known German cars from Bayern seem to cope with it so.....when I get back home and get to the workshop, I will throw some 2t into a tank and see what happens. I already use Redex regularly, so let's see......
Thanks Guys for your input.

Wish I could get ANYTHING above 23mpg average out of my 3L auto, but then again I'm 50% towing a 1.6T caravan @ 50/60 mph (true speed!). Haven't done enough solo miles to get a meaningful figure but 27 looks to be it.
I've been using 2SO @ 200/1 mix for about 9m now (3K miles) & it definitely does make thing quieter (difficult to make them noisier LOL) & smoother with about 5% better fuel consumption. It takes several tank-fills to get the best benefits.

The idea is to replace the lubicity lost when sulphur was taken out some years ago. Anything that might make the fuel injection parts last longer is OK by me.

I'm wary of quoting fuel figures with this truck as both the speedo & milometer exaggerate quite alarmingly, & are worse at 30/40 (20%+!) improving towards 60/70mph (10%+). Perhaps they read right @ 120mph?LOL. Don't know how Nissan get away with this as 10%+ is the max. allowed by law.

Over known runs of 149m & 161m @ 50mph average, covered previously in several other vehicles, the speedo is overeading by around 5%; confirmed also by sat nav. It's even worse than my previous Frontera which, when the mood took it, would indicate 30/40 mph when first started on my upward sloping driveway...what fun...but the speedo was 'only' 10%+ max. in use (so at least legal!) the milometer was fairly accurate.

Before anyone asks, the tyres are the original & only 1/2 worn (36K miles). I've been told that new tyres are worse on fuel as the deeper tread 'moves' about more so that's something to realy look forward to (not) LOL.

i got a replacement 2.7 t2 157,000mls to tide me over and yesterday i brimmed tank with 60/40 wvo/derv as have been introducing it to wvo.
started a trip with caravan 850kg ish and after 75 mls stopped and topped tank to brim and it took 10.25 ltrs of my mix which =over 7 mls ltr so very pleased at 60/65mph.
i do put two stroke and some cetane
booster in.
that is better than my other t2 at 107000mls.

Just to add to the 2T oil thing.
I have been running my 3.0L on it for a couple of hundred miles now and can say, the engine is quieter and a bit more sparky.
I will keep adding it now, thanks to who ever brought this up in the 1st place :thumb2

Oh cool, I was gonna suggest being careful with the 3.0 engine but the proof is in the pudding :thumb
I remember people saying they don't like veg :augie

The older 3.0L was supposed to be a bit fragile, the later ones were sorted.
2 T oil is used as a lubricant in the diesel, so as long as it's used in measured amounts, should be fine.
I don't know if it will take veg, but as I have stated before, I can't be arsed will the messing around, I don't use the truck as much as some of you guys, so it's not a problem. :thumb2

Interesting info!
I have 58K 2.7 engine and use 100% WVO. Assume it has good lubrication properties, no need to add 2 stroke oil?
Consumption is quite poor thou - around 22mpg empty and drops to 9mpg when towing another car on the trailer...

Adding a wee bit of 2 stroke (in the recommended ratio) to your tank of fuel is completely different to filling the tank full of veg oil bud!

The Terrano and pre 2007 Trol 3.0 engines are all DI and so on theory can handle a bit of messing fuel wise but I've not heard of anyone that's tried.

The issues with the 3.0 aren't fuel related but are mechanical and to do with overboosting and cooking cylinders and was a major issue with the engines in the pre 2003 Trols, not helped by the fact they had insufficient oil channels (poor show Mr Nissan). Problems were pretty much sorted by the time the 3.0 was put in the Terrano but they are still a bit susceptible to overboosting if messed with mechanically speaking. Best practice is to keep on top of maintenance (same as with any engine) especially keeping the maf clean as a dirty maf can lead to overboost. Any engine modding is not recommended as even putting in a bigger exhaust will cause changes down the line and increase the chance of overboost.

It's clean I tell ya
Just returned from a caravan weekend and usually the front lower part of my van has speckles of soot on it, I had fitted a bend to the end of the exhaust some time ago and that directs the muck down and away, but I still got speckles.
Any way, after adding the 2T oil, the front of the van is now almost speckle free :thumb2
