WOW!! Loving the truck, where did you source the spotlights from???

So now it's all coming together! I wired the LED bar and the LED backup lights yesterday. So this is how the truck will look like, everything on the outside is done!
Left to do is:
- Convert the air box to carry a K&N cone filter and connect the snorkel.
- Wire the fan for the intercooler
- Put back the inner roof
- Change filters and oils
- Pack the car and go! :D

Just another pic for the show! :naughty

Was out with the family for a little Sunday excursion, ended up towing a VW Transporter 4motion out of the ditch, with ease! It was in really deep snow. Just low gear and a big smile on my face was all I needed!

Will be tuned in to your blog.
Waiting for April fools day.
Don't forget your factor 50.:thumbs

We are now on the road! Cruising at this very moment, car runs well and everything should be in order. I hope.. Haha. Thank you all for the help you've been giving me. Car wouldn't be the same if it wasn't for you!
Follow us on instagram and the blog!

Hi everyone! We are now in Dakhla, Western Sahara. Car is still running well and it continues to take us to many fascinating places! To drive here in the desert is wonderful. Hot, windy and a lot of sand. Largest sandbox in the world haha.

Sounds great, don't forget to post some photos when you get to stable internet connection.

Well done and please keep us posted on here as I am sure there must be many like me that do not do facebook, instawhatsit or blogg stuf, all means nothing to me, Rick

What's your Instagram account name buddy? Just tried to find you but nothing came up for SilasStingy :nenau

The Instagram account is "Swedentogambia". I will post some photos here when I reach Gambia, otherwise the blog and the Instagram is a good channel for those of you who access such things :)
On Thursday we will drive across the "no mans land" between Western Sahara and Mauritania! Wish us luck haha.

Hi all anyone heard anything from Silas? last I heard he was in the Sahara, but nothing since, I do not do instagram/facebook etc so if anyone has info please share it, Rick

Africa

I will definitely read this thread of yours carefully once and twice more, for I am my self planning to drive my car from the Netherlands to Cameroon once it will be ready to go. I would be very interested to learn from your experiences. As for now, I am still making my car free of rust, and next there will be several other parts to renew (turbo, exhaust, fuel tank). Also some desired modifications (winch, flood lights, snorkel yes, construction on roof top for carrying luggage). I've been in Africa many times, but never went there by car.
I have been traveling quite a bit in west Africa before, been in Mali and a few times in Senegal by road but never drove myself. Bushtaxis made out of old Peugeot's and Toyota Hiace's. I already have a small simple apartment in Gambia and along the way it will be tent + sleeping under the stars!
I think we will take the most simple road, ferry across the Mediterranean from Spain over to Morocco - West Sahara (short bit) - Mauretania - Senegal - Gambia.
The worst bit will be the "nomansland" between West Sahara and Mauretania where there is plenty of sand other than that it should be quite simple. Bad roads with plenty of pot holes but nothing too serious if one don't over speed or drive after dark.
The reason to fit the snorkel is due to dust and when arriving in Gambia the rainy season will soon start and flooding and deep mud is common...

I think the most serious off-roading will actually be in Gambia, I know what I will be doing during the days! :thumb2

How to find out the year model of the engine?
Mods for extra cooling could be interesting!
Is it a problem that my AC don't work?

I have 3 South African colleagues who when I've asked them about driving have all told me about bad experiences, 1 of them was hijacked at knife point in Durban and another who was hijacked at gun point in Jo'berg both in the last 4 years

Don't think I'd like to drive out there
