that bad oil seal can be changed with the diff on the car, and the slack bearing adjusted as well, you should find shims between the flange and the diff casing, try removing one or two till you get no play, there should be several of different thickness, so play to get it right if possible including the thinnest, then with no play remove the thinnest to give small pre load, Rick
 
Lots and lots to do on the car before I leave!

The yet to do list:

Fit roof rack (Roof rack needs sandblasting and painting)
Front LED Bar
Backup LEDs
Wheel spacers +30mm
Wheel arch extensions
Fit new rims + tires (Mitsubishi L200 rims and 245/75/16 Cooper Discoverer S/T Maxx)
Front alignment
Change break pads
Extend the front diff breather to engine bay
Hopefully do a rust treatment
Change the fuel lines to hoses

There has also been changes made to the plan. I will not drive the car back but will leave it in a garage in Gambia. I go there every year and this car will be of great use there in the future anyway.

I will bring some "diesel stabil", take the tires of and put the car on stands. Get a proper cover for the car and plug all inlets to prevent possums and whatever creepy crawlies to nest in the car. Unplug batteries etc.

Something else worth thinking of to make sure the car starts next time I travel south?
 
Had MOT today! The front brake calipers are not opening up as they should.. Will open them up and hopefully I will be able to repair them.

The fuel lines are changed, hoses all the way from tank to filter!
Snorkel arrived today, and 30mm spacers are also fitted! :clap
 
If you are leaving the car in Gambia for many months remember the battery will self discharge even if not connected, it really needs a top up charge every 6 to 8 weeks, if allowed to discharge completely it will sulphate up and become useless, Rick

I will ask somebody to charge them up for me every now and then, thanks!
 
I'm getting there slowly but surely! Snorkel and new wheels in place now.

Has it had a new wing at some point or is that one just cleaner than the rest of the panels because you had it off to fit the snorkel :nenau

The wing is not new I just polished it up with a rag after assembly! The whole car got repainted before I got it. There has been some previous repair of rust on the wings.

Unfortunately I need to cut away some from the front wheel arches as the tires are scraping to much when turning. :doh I have already removed the mud flaps but it wasn't enough! The overall dimension of the tire is 30.67''

Anybody done this before?

You're going to need to bin the mudflaps and bend the sill back with a big hammer as well to stop it catching for 31's I did anyways with some BFGoodrich AT's on.

Cut away some steel and bended it back. Attatched some thin rubber as new mudflaps.
 
That does look tasty, my only fear is muppets parking in front of you :eek:
 
So as departure is closing in we have started to work on a blog where we will keep posting during and also before the road trip down to The Gambia!
