Has anyone ever done this before?

I just think it's a naff set-up and would like my sidelights to be in the brake light cluster as It's higher up and would be more visible there

Could I not fit one of those dual filament bulbs and tap off the sidelight feed of the bumper cluster?

Maybe I should just shut up and leave it alone :lol

I fitted a single 5w bulb by drilling a small hole in the side and wiring it up to the tail light.

Now I have 4 tail lights, two low, two high.:thumb2
Quite a few members have done similar.:thumb2

I believed you Rustic, Oh, those doughting Thomas's :augie:lol

This is how I made the bulb.
I took a glass 5watt side light, straightened the leads, attached it to some vero board, used some chemical metal on the bulb base, then fitted two wites, drilled a hole in the vero board, and drilled a clearance hole in the rear of the light cluster, and fitted the assembly with a self tapper. So easy to replace the bulb.

Paul did the 4 tail light mod years ago:augie it's one thing I haven't got around to doing yet but might use LED bulbs for the job so I don't put to much load on the factory wiring:augie

I originally fitted them as when we saw a similar vehicle on the motorway, the lights were so low, some motorists could miss them, especially when changing lanes on motorways.
I originally got the idea from a Land Rover Discovery, when I realised that they had added the upper two on one of their models, must be well over 10 years ago...

Also having 4 tail lights, you are hardly going to get pulled by the Police if one is out lol...

Looking at modern cars, 4 is the general minimum these days, the more the merrier, as long as they don't cause glare.:thumb2

Been done by quite a few on here over the years.
Would like to move all my lights out of the bumper as they get covered in crap easily because of the position they are in.

Fair point that!! I've often caked them in mud and not bothered to clean them :doh same with the numberplate

I do like that Rustic but I want them to be as bright as the bumper ones, the top ones seem very dim in comparison, surely I could just use a double filament bulb and just tap off the sidelight feeds into the rear of the clusters up top?

You could, but a twin filiament bulb has offset bayonet pins.
The second filiament will only be 5watts anyway.
Also the lower sidelights, I think are 10 watts each, so that's why they are brighter.
So you could fit higher wattage bulbs to the upper lights, but the problem is making sure you meet the legal requirements so that Brake lights can be distinguished from side lights, when in the same cluster.

Yours was the one I remember as it was so simple to do :thumb2

I am a bit confused... what is the second bulb in the picture of the light? I thought mine only had the one bulb, which is the brake light.

Glad you just asked that because I'm confused with that as well

In fact I don't understand what he has done at all :nenau
