Hi All,

This is my first post and please feel free to shout at me if this question has been asked before, I have searched and not found it though.

I have a 99 T Reg Maverick which has Auto Hubs and have just bought a 53 Terrano that has fixed hubs.

My question is can I put the auto's on the terrano and the fixed on the maverick? If so is it a straight swap?

My reasoning is the maverick will probably never see the road again so 4wd 99% of the time and the terrano is my daily drive.

Thanks in advance

Welcome :thumb2

I'm the clubs friendly moderator, 1 of 3 but probably the most active (I live here :lol )

Yep it can be done and in fact is something I'm going to be doing very soon :D

I've just had a 96' Maverick written off after I was smashed into by a truck on the motorway, I will be transferring the auto's onto my 04' SWB Terrano Commercial and removing the fixed which I have been told will save me a bit of dollar as it will be more fuel efficient as the front prop etc won't be spinning constantly.

This should also make the UJ's on the prop last a lot longer :thumb2

If you do it before I do, get some pics up buddy, I'm going to create a workshop download for it, talking of which, now you are a full member you now have access to this area :thumb2

Great, thanks for the reply, so it really should be as simple as bolt off bolt on?

Same here my mav was written off while parked, I was in the chippy when a women in a Range Rover sport reversed straight into it.

If you have the 17" alloy's it's a no go as the auto hubs will stop the wheels being fitted:doh TBH got fixed hubs on mine & not noticed any change MPG wise from my last one with auto hubs i'm also not a fan of the auto hubs as it's just something else to go wrong

It is little more involved than just unbolt and rebolt, first if I remember the fixed hubs are on studs with nuts, so the studs will need removing, then on the auto hubs once the hubs are off then the circlip on the shaft needs to be removed and all the removeable bits behind it transferred to the new motor, you will notice that the shaft has two circlip grooves, outer one for fixed hubs inner one for Auto, Rick

Thanks for the info Rick, I'm sure I've seen you post a similar reply in somone elses thread its coming back to me now :)

How easy is it to remove the studs?

The rest is childsplay to me, the amount of times I've had those on and off to do this job and that :lol

Hasnt someone else done this in the last month or so. Totally understand why people would want to fit auto lockers but personally im happy with my fixed and my manuals on the older one. Yes there is extra wear n tear for sure and the later propshafts dont have grease nipples which compounds the problem.

Anyhoo welcome aboard:clap

I'm half looking forward to my UJ's dying so I can fit some new ones from Milners with grease nipples :sly

If anyone needs a set Ive got a brand new pair of them, one unused in box the other has been fitted to my old propshaft. Im sure we could come to some sort of agreement:thumb2

Why bother when you can have one of mine with greasers from Auto hub motor so not done any work for £20 plus post, Rick

Somewhat off topic, is there a workshop for checking auto hubs, I have had my Mav for nearly 4 years and perhaps they should be checked, if I dont it may snow a bit.

Wow thanks for all the replies. OK maybe a daft question but say cost was no issue (It is though believe me) but if it wasn't is there an off the shelf kit you can buy anywhere that offer a bolt on option including new auto hubs?

Also I guess these from milner will go straight on? http://www.milneroffroad.com/nissan/terrano/r20-2-7td-1993-1999-maverick-1993-terrano-1/r20-axle-frontrear-1/r20-manual-free-wheeling-hub?new_ver=1&utm_expid=52418066-1.BK6FuGKhRNe2LBX8BaOU_w.1&utm_referrer=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.milneroffroad.com%2Fnissan%2Fterrano%2Fr20-2-7td-1993-1999-maverick-1993-terrano-1%2Fr20-axle-frontrear-1%3Fnew_ver%3D1

All i have to do then is stop being lazy and get out. :)
