As the title says my sunroof rattles , well not the actual glass but the sliding inner cover board, and at the moment the only way I can stop it is to jam a piece of 1/2 inch wood between the slide part and the cover board, I hope somone can help as the radios on max and since the weathers changed its a pain in the ASS..... PLEASE HELP as it looks crap when you give a mate a lift and you spend 10 mins explaining why you have a piece of wood in the sunroof cover board lol

i got a sunroof rattle too , so would be very interested in solutions to it

Ah well I use a silicone gun nozzle:D Stops the rattle and is easily removed for full slide mode etc:thumbs
IF you want to sort it properly you'll need a day off and loads of tea:augie
The head lining needs to come out to reveal the sides of the board slider. There are little metal clips that are pressed onto the edge of the fibre board thing and they come off. It's a simple job but needs half the car stripping to get at the ruddy thing:eek::eek:

No its a much simpler job than that! I drove around Europe with a large lump of foam stuck in mine. The cure, ten minuets at the most. open sun roof, look down inside and you will see a rail at either side. in each rail you will see a screw, adjust this screw and the rattle will disappear.......just like that! regards bri

Ah well to be honest I need to take the headlining out to fit two antenna mounts and route coaxial cable etc, so as I need to drill the roof (before anybody says yikes its easy and when you sell the car you just put a grommet in it afterall whos tall enough to see on top of the roof without step ladders lol) when the time comes does anyone know any tricks quick fixes etc when dropping/refitting the roof headliner AND if these clips are re-fitted will they just pop off at the first hurdle of pushing the cover board back/forward, Would it be advisable to get new clips if possible and are they still available??? Plenty of answers wanted please.....

LIKE WILDBRIS thoughts/answer can you be sure that this will kill the rattle??????:nenau :nenau :nenau

Hi Bri, do you tilt or slide the roof open? are the screws towards the front of the car or rear?

I glued the little buggers on to avoid taking the head lining out again:D
Where on the roof do you need to put your holes? as you can "persuade the corners and the back end quite easily;)
Going to look for those screws in the morning though, I can think of 2 mates I can then do a quick fix for:lol

Makefit- The holes are going to be just behind the sunroof carrier about 2/3 down from the front heading towards the rear like so, front[ -- ]rear, Think wildbri and I shall have a few new mates for bringing the rattle issue to close if wildbris trick works lol lol

The lining is held in round the edges by the plastic trim behind the front door, and again by the trim round back windows. If you get the edge away enough you'll see all the runner gubbins to avoid:augie:thumbs

Had a look, the roof needs to be tilted, look down in the opened bit and you will see a screw at each side, a bit fiddlie to get at the screws but they come loose and cause the rattle.
Lovely weather here in Weymouth, off to Christchurch tomorrow for ten days, regards bri

Thanks Bri, I'll be having a look at mine this weekend. Hope your thinking about us poor workers whilst your living it up:thumb2

Been on a mission to cure some noises on my R20 - first one was a rattle from the sun roof, found the screws wildbri referred to, off-side one needed tightening about 10th of a turn, I thought, no way that is going to cure a rattle that's been annoying me for a year - WRONG! - Rattle is gone. Second noise was what I thought was front outer CV joints - horrible clunking bang from the steering on full lock. Had a quote of 280€ (cars' in Spain) to replace them, then checked posts for similar noises, found a couple that mentioned worn steering stops. Big blob of grease on all four - noise completely gone. Cost? £4 for a tube of grease! Thank you thank you thank you Nissan 4x4 Owners Club and contributing members.

Pete, let me have a look Friday, if its just a screw to tighten up, ill do it and we can take a quick drive to see if the other rattle is still present. i can sit in the back with windows down for a listen...!

Sorry for the forum archaeology, had a quick look yesterday and couldn't easily see these two screws (or maybe two holes where they used to be?)

Not sure I'm looking in the right place, so maybe some simple words to help me!

Should the sunroof be opened in the tilt position?
Should I be looking from above, outside the car or from inside?
Are the screws towards the front or rear of the vehicle?

If it stops raining I will have another look and take some pictures too maybe in case others are as clueless as me :nenau

Cheers.
