Hi all ; just a quick one! Can any one tell me what size sump plug key I need for the rear diff ?.

I used a 1/2 inch drive ratchet bar on mine..

I tried the 1/2" drive first, but it's just a bit too small and the plugs are well rusted .I don't think the oil has been changed for a long time and it started to deform the square hole in the plug, so I gave up on that idea!

Should be a 14mm square sump socket but I usually end up using the 1/2" drive to put it back in after dropping the socket in the bucket :doh

make up some steel shims on the faces of the 1/2" drive.:thumb2

Half inch knuckle bar is the one to use, and apply heat to the local area, or try it after a long run when nice and hot, it will fall out, if the drain plug has become damaged put a jack under the bar to hold it in the square, if it is the fill plug, then a length of wood against it levered off the fuel tank, never not got one out yet, Rick

by the way the square is tapered getting smaller the deeper in you go, and it is nothing special, just a British standard half inch BSP male plug, the iron ones come in two common versions female square and male square, available at any plumbers for pennies, Rick

needs to DRY a little more first

would you use an engin flush??

engine flush is not worth a lot unless an oil change has been missed and it is really thick, easy to check the state of your oil just a drop on a bit of glass, then place another bit of glass on top, squeeze gently, if it is black and difficulty seeing through it, then it is very bad, if dark but able to see through then old but not too bad, if just greyish and see though easy then normal change time, compare this with new oil, it is all to do with the amount of carbon in the oil, easy with experience, Rick
