had the new terrano a few days now and twice it has randomly fizzled out and wont start leave it a few mins and it fires up as if nothing has happend.
first time was 2 miles into a jorney and it fizzled out when throttle was let of going into a roundabout.
second time atbottem of our street when throttle was let off to pull up to a t junction second time it had been used in the morning and been sat a hour or two.

its a 2.7 1996 terrano 2 swb manual gear box

cutting out

Hi sounds like a blocked fuel filter or Mini filter in the banjo bolt going into the pump.

Has someone played a "joke" and blocked your exhaust?

is there any smoke?

Hope you get it sorted

Paulp

naa exaust is ok may get a diesel filter for it today allso has a full tank of diesel as first time thought it was low

I get this when running WVO when we get a very sudden drop in temperature

It causes the fuel in filter to wax up which causes a blockage, which in turn leads to the engine being starved of Fuel causing the stall.

I'd replace your filter first as it's a cheap place to start, and while your working in that area why not replace your feed and return pipes from your filter with some 8mm ID clear piping?

This is invaluable for checking the state of play in your lines in terms of, 1. are you getting any fuel, 2. is there air in your fuel

Here's what I did, 1m length of "Food Grade" piping from a Beer Brewing store near me for £1

i will get the clear pipes for it as you say i can then see whats happening with it this one has had no veg oil in it only my lwb terrano.

i was thinking allong the lines of blocked filter so will get a new one and try that and do fuel lines at same time

just orderd 2mtrs of clear hose of that auction site lol.
cost £2.75 for 2 meters so thats the 2 terranos done.
also with this pipe not being diesel resistant how long do you recon it will last lol

fuel filter

Hi have you got a water drain plug on your fuel filter

It maybe worth seeing if water comes out

regards Paulp

there was one being sold on fleabay with the exact same fault as spares or repair :doh:doh but that was a long wheel base.

yep start by checking fuel then have a look at the fuel stop soloniod on the injector pump to make sure the wire connection to it hasnt come loose and check the other pump connections big round one right on top is all the pump connections

when it konks out look at the fuel primer on top of the fuel filter, there is a good chance that it is down, not up,easy to look at at,try pumping it,if it is down and you have changed the fuel filter and the banjo one on the top of the fuel ip is clear/taken out then i would take the tank sender unit out and remove the cup shaped swirl chamber off, extend the tube with a bit of derv fuel pipe to touch the bottom of tank and that should get rid of the problem.
if it does not then the fuel pipe from tank to filter might be corroded at tank end along the chassis so sucking air through micro holes.
if its air getting in then replace the fuel line.
the ip has a pre suction pump built inside the ip pump, these can not be separated so if its faulty its a ip re-con.
this seams random but it is what i went through when i started running wvo mix.
an easy test befor you spend any money is to remove the fuel filter out of the equation altogether by rigging up a container to feed the ip with derv so if it runs ok the problem is after that point.
if you try that then dont forget the fuel return pipe as well or your container will soon drain.
i ended doing all that befor i got my t2 running good on wvo/rug.rag mix.
i put a new 10mm pipe from tank to filter area, put a large clear in line filter in place of the standard one, took out the swirl chamber, fitted an in line lift pump at the ip end to help the thicker fuel in the cold.
mine now works fine.
oh last thing, undo fuel tank cap to let air in.
long winded but it sorted me out, hope it helps.

That will be the test, mine is holding out quite well at the moment and I have a length of spare pipe in the boot so if it ever does go manky I will be repolacing at the side of the road somewhere

Changed pipe today diesel flow is good and no air bubbles not sure if diesel is running back to tank tho

When engine is turned of and left a little while the fuel is draining away from the fuel filter back to tank fire her up and fuel is up within a few seconds and air is purged
