Right o, I'm on a new project and will need some help and advice Sweety :D
I have 2 10" subs I nicked out of an old Mutant boom box my son carelessly left in the kitchen :lol
I realise I need to make some sort of enclosure. At the moment it's relatively easy as all the panels are stripped in the Black Pearl.
Here's my rough idea , it's about as big as I can get .

I made some cardboard templates for the enclosure sides.

Then cut some fibreboard I had in the garage and bonded that into place with Tigerseal ;)

Nice snug fit . I'll fibreglass that in tomorrow.
Bigger bit next to do and repeat the process.

I'll be blanking off all the other body holes too but will fit a Port somewhere.
Does the position of the port matter? Also what sort of size should it be ?
Do I need to fill the space behind the speaker with fluffy stuff or leave it empty ? :nenau

Nah, I've got big plans for the Trol :sly
This is a kind of practice run :D

Are the measurements in mm ? Personally I use 18mm MDF for builds but if you can get a good coating of fibreglass on all of the panels it should help loads as you might be shocked how much the sides of an enclosure can flex when a sub is working hard but I would advise the front the sub is mounted to is at least 18mm thick. Ports often work best fitted on the same panel the sub is mounted on & never on the rear panel as for size i'd prob go with a 2" wide port but the length of the port will depend on the inside volume of the enclosure (eg the 40L enclosure i'm going to build will have a 3" wide port which will be about 11" long to tune the enclosure down to 34Hz but if I used a 2" port at 4" long it would tune the enclosure to about 38Hz) Ports can easily be made from PVC pipe & if you have enough pipe you could make up a couple of ports different lengths to see which tuning point you like the best:thumb2 You can add fibre fill (fluffy stuff out of cheap pillows) & almost stuff the enclosure with it but don't block the port opening, it will partly fool the sub into thinking it's playing in a larger enclosure which should make is a bit boomier

Yep sizes in mm, what else is there ? :lol
I've got some mdf kicking about. I'll use that for the bigger bits I haven't glued in yet. I mainly went fibreborad as the shape's so fiddly it gave me a bit of room for error. Fibreglass is 2nd nature to me, it won't move if I don't want it to :sly
As for port length, that will be an issue as there is very little depth to play with. So could the port be curved? Like maybe, 2 x 45 degree elbows before the opening ?

Yes you can put in a 45 or 90 degree bend if you want/need to infact all of the port doesn't need to be inside the box if you didn't want it to be. I'll try & work out the volume of your box:doh oh measurements in inches work great for sub boxes:lol

I did a very rough calculation and got 0.03 m3 or in old money 1.06 cubic feet :nenau

Just tried to work out the volume (i'm not great with maths) but your planed enclosures are looking to have a volume of about 26L each which I think will be a bit to small to go the ported route sadly so i'd go for sealed enclosures instead which should give you a nice tight bass sound

Pretty close to my figures. At best I could squeeze 30 L . Too many other bits in the way .
Unless an annexed box is allowed ?

Enclosures can be almost any shape you wish, TBH i'm running a single 10" in my boot with the parcel shelf folded down over the boot & it still sounds nice but if it was fitted behind the front seats where yours are going it would be a lot loader to the ear

Ah but needed to know more before sticking in a cock up. I'll see what I can do tonight :)

stop chatting and post PICS:D

Sorry boyo no time for the sub project today. Just got another baffle in is all

A right blinking pain too. As soon as you get the right shape you can't necessarily get it in the ruddy hole
Ongoing :D

Not had much time the last few days as we found some more floor was missing :doh
Anyway I got some fibreglass done tonight at least :)

I've also made the front panel and hope to get that on tomorrow

I seriously hope you did paper template copies mate.for the mdf shapes. or else I may not talk to you in wales;)

ive got no boot trims at all and I will do this I already got materials:clap

I do have the templates but you'll have to tweak them as my arches are higher than yours . The bigger one you can see in the pic goes down to my side exit exhaust tunnel too, so another tweak there :lol
I'll keep the bits for you to have a head start at least

Ah, erm, just thought, yours is LWB :nenau

If your going to fit a sub Steve you'll need to know what volume enclosure it needs as no 2 subs use the same volume really. I've got mine so it's easily removable for when we go camping:thumb2 Still need to get my install done but now the Son's car is finished i'll have a bit more time to do mine:thumb2 Talking of the Son he was at a cruise at the weekend & the photographer of the forum took a few picks of his car & the sound system I fitted:D

good points.:naughty

this is within my ability anyway:D just likin this thread.
after ive finished me girls vivarium and me daughters mate vivarium and dome my intercooler mod and breather pipes and service I will do this too:D

are we getting gooseberries this year pete:nenau I bring you some sausage cheese and oatckes:D
