Hi guys, can anyone help please, this is driving me mad....?

when i turn the steering wheel i get this strange clicking noise from near the steering wheel.
so i started by stripping the plastic shroud off to see if there was anything obvious that shouldnt have been there...but nothing.

then i noticed the clicking seemed to be coming from the steering wheel, so i stripped off the plastic covers on the back of the steering wheel and on turning the wheel noticed what was making the clicking noise...

there is what appears to be some kind of contact that seems loose and is moving about inside when the wheel is turned.

I tried to take some snaps but they arent terribly great.

Can anyone tell me what it is and suggest how to fix it?

there is a balance thingy that falls off due to rubber failure, bin it, Rick

Hi rick thanks for the reply.

so should i just tug it out and chuck it in the bin?
should i disconnect the battery before doing this to stop me touching summat i dont want to or setting off the air bag....?

quick update on the clicking noise.

pulled the plastic covers off the back of the steering wheel, disconnected the battery and stuck my screw driver in and fiddled out the thing causing the rattle...i guess the next question is why is it there and what purpose does it serve?

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO, you should never remove that......what is it :augie:augie:augie :thumbs

Strangley I removed mine only last week, when I turned the steering wheel to the left the horn sounded!
Bit embarassing in town' I asked on here and was told what the problem was, that lump of steel had come loose and so I took it out....cured. I was told that it was to stop vibration in the wheel. Regards. Bri
