My T2 seems to have a slightly annoying engine noise/rattle which only seems to start at about 50mph. It's hard to describe, but the best I came up with is sounds a bit like frozen peas in a tin can.

It goes away under 50mph and definitely related to speed, not revs as it doesn't do it when just revving the engine stationary.

Haven't pinpointed where exactly cos not that easy from the drivers seat and the old diesel lump isn't particularly well soundproofed in the cabin, but I'd guess it's at the back of the engine, near the top.

Some days it's not quite as noisy, but still there. Everything runs fine, reads normal on the guages and can't find anything visibly loose in the engine bay, but it just seems to have this tin-can rattle.

Anyone know why? Or what it may be? :nenau

Hi, on my Mav MkI, I had an annoying rattle at about 1500-2000 rpm, what I noticed is the U clamp on the exhaust bracket that attaches to the gearbox was coming loose.

To cure it, I put an extra M8 nut on each end of the "U " bolt, and locked them up, this was the only way to stop the nut undoing.

Several members have had this problem, and I recall this tip from a previous poster. It has never rattled since.:thumb2

Also look at the bracket, as mine had also cracked, but 10 seconds with the Mig and it was sorted.

Hope it helps.

Best regards,

Rustic

Yep, just had the same about a month ago - exhaust bracket loose. Used to happen at 30mph and at idle, bl**dy annoying. Only took me a year to pinpoint it. :banghead :banghead

I had a loose propshaft guard that made exactly the noise you are describing

failing that .... its probably a exhaust mounting rubber that's come loose / dropped off ......hopefully summat simple anyway .

Can you take some pics when you look at the exhaust clamp, i think mine may be doing the same

Didn't get chance this weekend, was too busy plus it was all a bit wet out there

Will see what I can find this coming weekend all being well. And will take some pics of what I find (if I can find it!) ;)
