Hi all,

Came back from holiday do discover a mouse (I guess) had done this to my seat belt[1].

I'm confident/assuming this will be an MOT failure.

Before I scour Ebay, is there any difference between seat belts for 2.7 and 3.0 engines of the 2002 vintage? I assume a driver side belt wont work on the passenger side (I need driver side)? Anything else I need to be aware of?

[1] My truck is a microcosm of rural life. If the few bits of horse or sheep feed in a bucket on the back seat didn't draw them in, the dogs treats in the centre console did.

The 3 will have pre tensioners and yes you need a drivers belt, the others will not fit, I have a few belts but not a drivers pre tension one, however the belts can be changed on the spool but it is a bit tricky, Rick

Ooh, pretensioners. I was hoping to avoid those. Are they like airbags and can go bang?

I guess I should take the cover off and have a nosey.

This is a pic of what I have. Will a 3L Patrol likely have the same?

I doubt the mounting will be the same on a Patrol, I will take a pick of what I have and post it tomorrow (Monday) Rick

The only one I have with a pre tensioner is minus its belt, which tells me they are replaceable, will have to look at Mrs motor tomorrow and see if I have a belt suitable, they are not too difficult to change, Rick

Belts come it 2 colours, belt colour and trim colour (the bit on the pillar above your shoulder) if you are not fussed about that then I can probably find you a belt to replace yours, I would advise not to unplug the electrical connector on your unit and just do the belt change in situ, if you unplug it you will probably need to get the airbag light/system reset, Rick

That would be amazing. The truck is hardly concourse condition. Odd colour belts would just add to the 'patina'. My (admittedly limited) Internet searches have thrown up much.

Obviously happy to pay.

Thanks for the wiring tip. I guess if I disconnect the battery and give it a while I could then disconnect things if it helps.

Here is a pic of the spool, note the bit of wire, that is holding the spring tension, what you do is pull the belt all the way out and jamb the spool, then push the belt back through the slot till you can get at the plastic pin that goes through the stitched loop in the belt, remove the pin then pull the belt out, noting which way round it is, then refit the new belt, if I have got the correct one and will not be able to check till I have access to the Mrs motor then it is £10 plus P & P Rick

Thanks for the info. Looks like something best done out of the truck. Do you think it is at all possible in situ?

Price is agreable/wonderful/generous. Thank You.

Will be keeping my fingers crossed.

I will not be able to look until the WE as the Mrs is always out in her motor, Rick

Unbelievably, the little rodent has now done over the offside backseat belt (not the rear, rear seat) as well.

Truck now full of traps.

I think the blighter might have got in when I stored the rear, rear seat in a barn.

I have a Drivers belt and an OS middle row belt, will take pics tomorrow and post them for you to say yes or no, Rick

Here are the two belts I have, top one is drivers with the sliding post fitting in grey, bottom is passenger one in black, Rick

And received the following day.

Thank you Rick.

Will report back, probably in the new year when fitted.

Not 100% sure the stowaway has left hence my delay in getting on with the job.
