OK so it's not losing water, boiling over, or causing any problems at all (apart from worrying) ?

I would suggest removal of the digital temperature gauge, stop worrying about it, and keep an eye on the water level.

hi,well fitted two new fans to the front of radiator,no difference, fitted new waterpump and all fixed, not sure if waterpump or viscous hub was the problem but all good now, with caravan on and a 30deg day temp doesnt go much above normal on a hill,so a good end to a long and tiresome saga, thanks for everones input help, cheers pete

Considering the minimal cost of a water pump, it should have been inspected / replaced sometime ago, certainly before $1200 radiators!!

hi,thats the sad part,it was all done through apparently reputable mechanics, the previous owners did and paid what was recomended to be done to fix the problem,i was a little luckier tho not much,in that i still spent about 800 dollars on mechanics advice fixing replacing bits\electric fans etc before deciding to do the pump myself, pleased its fixed now though.cheers pete

I have only changed one water pump and that was on a British Leyland car, it was leaking.

Question:
How can changing a water pump improve the cooling of an engine? :nenau

It is a rotor driven by a pulley and drive belt, what is there to go wrong that makes it overheat, it either rotates and pumps 100% or does not rotate, so the pulley won't be turning.

Either the rotor has corroded to nothing or the rotor is no longer attached to the shaft. :nenau
Am I missing something ?

tempeture

beat me to it the water pump on these are weak

to the point that the fins can disintegrate

any way glad it is fixed

paulp

hi,the viscous fan coupling is part of the waterpump on the mistral,if the pumps impellors are damaged or the fan hub isnt working correctly the engine will overheat,id put money on mine being the viscous hub as it was fine with normal running and only got hot when towing.its a funny thing with these that over in the uk everyone says these vehicles are way overcooled but in aussie and nz we have alot of overheating problems with them, different temp\humidity\thinner air less ozone layer who knows.it was 33deg here today and a burn time of less than 10mins.cheers pete

needs a new pump ...... simples

you get the new viscous thingy magigggy as well free

had 2 like this . no reason for over heating. and turns out to be the pump. and visibly nothing wrong. i think they just wear and become less efficient.

although on one the impaler had snapped off

Whats that you say Vlad???

It was called an impeller when I did my engineering training....LOL:thumb2

Wasn't that the redheads that was fecked like that?
