Hi guys i few weeks ago i noticed my truck was pulling to the left under braking so i stripped, cleaned and greased the slider pins.
This seemed to help a little but the problem was still there so i removed the callipers and found that as suspected the off side calliper was slightly seized or sticking.

So i sprayed lots of WD40 into the piston and under the rubber and worked the piston in and out by pressing the peddle and then pressing it back in using a G clamp.

Once assembled it did seem to be better but the problem seems to be rearing its ugly head again.

Whats the best thing to do?
Should i buy a pair of new callipers?
Strip mine and assemble with a repair kit?
Buy a second hand replacement?
Has anyone repaired the calliper and piston, is it a relatively easy task?

One of my worries is that i wont be able to remove the bleed nipple without it breaking, which then presents me with a new problem....

Any help or advice would be appreciated.
Cheers
Stephen

I would go for re conditioned or new calipers wouldnt trust second hand ones could work out much cheaper in the long run

I have taken callipers off before and stripped them. Pop piston out with compressed air then cleaned it up with emery tape and reassembled. Depends how bad they are I guess

Probably worth stripping too see and having a go anyhow

Yes that kind of makes sense, however if the bleed nipple snaps off how do i extract it?

Bleed nipples are very difficult to remove once snapped.
If you try to use an easy out and that snaps it's pretty much game over.
If you try to drill out the snapped nipple then keeping the drill central is very difficult and you generally end up with no threads.

I've rebuilt front calipers before a number of times, i've even rebuilt rear calipers with integral handbrake mechanisms (nearly 30 bits in those!).

DO NOT clean the piston with emery cloth or anything abrasive.
The other Nissan calipers I've refurbed from the same era are platinum plated.
Rough surface and rubber piston seal in the caliper with brake fluid under pressure will only equal one thing - leaks.
If you use anything to clean the piston, use clean brake fluid on a rag or kitchen roll.
It's not terribly difficult to rebuild front calipers, just keep things clinically clean and you'll need picks to get the old seals out and the new piston outer dust boot retaining rings in if that's the set-up being used.
You can shoot the pistons out with a footpump if you don't have compressed air. Just be creative with the adaptors on the end of the pump tube and use some blu-tack to create a seal and put a thin bit of wood opposite the piston in the caliper claw to catch the piston without damaging it.

P.S. Try Nissan for a seal kit. You get all the greases, clips, seals and they used to be reasonably priced (about £40 to do both front calipers which were single piston ones I was working on for a different car).

I had this problem and ended up replacing both callipers and sliders as they were seized solid

Took 2 new ones off James for £50 and now they are working a treat :)

I noticed my truck was pulling to one side after fitting the new discs and pads but this seemed to be ok after I bled the brakes, while I was doing this I let the tank run a bit low to the point that the sensor got stuck and the brake light was showing on the dash, I had to free it by pulling it back up with 2 straws from WD40 cans :lol:lol

I replaced one of my calipers not too long ago, all worked fine but went to drive the truck yesterday and it was sticking so I changed it for new, cost me £90. Took me about half hour to do :)
