Stereo Fitting

i went to fit my pioneer the other day, and noticed the hole on my mav was too big, well i noticed it before when i took the old stereo out to find the cage was glued onto the dash. anyway, i thought that maybe a pervious owner had cut the hole bigger for another stereo, so went down the breakers to find the mav there was the same. spoke to a guy in wilco, and he reckon the mav's had there stereo hole cut/melded bugger to fit ford stereos. anyone else heard this, or anyone else had similar issues?

im either going to find a terrano now and see if there stereo hole is the same as the mavs, and if it isnt have that piece of dash, or im going to cut out a piece of mdf thatll fit to the dash and then cut a hole on that for the stereo. grrrr, bloody fords...

ther are two brackets inside wich the original ford stereo fitted to. i welded my new stereo's cage to these brackets.

Sounds like the same arrangement of brackets as the T2

I didnt know any of this as mine went straight in. :?:

I also found for my install with amp wiring etc there was loads of room behind the dash so thanks nissan/ford for having me in mind :lol:

Your right 4x4xford there is loads of room behind the dash just as well for all the RCA leads etc that come out of my headunit to feed the anp & the rest :lol: Have you just got the 1 amp & sub in the back of yours ?

As for the hole in the dash I found it was standard DIN size & fitted the cage into it with no problems. If yours has been made bigger for some reason you could replace the whole panel for a nissan one instead of trying to make it fit & patching it up ( that what I would do any way :roll: )

my terrano has the correct size hole 1996-1999 model just get a centre panel from the breakers I have heard this problem before on the fords have you also got the amp under the drives seat

Yes pal, one amp piggy backed on my sub, only a 200 watt amp as my big amp that came with my sub doesnt fit on it, as i have so much stuff in the boot it had to be tidy....ish.

I even found that the centre consol etc comes out easy and hides all the wires nicely. 8)

Cant imagine having a car without a sub!!!! Just wouldnt sound right -groovy-

Tell me about it :lol: it was the 1st thing I did after getting the T2 had to put in the 10" & 12" subs, 800w anp make a proper shelf to mount the 6x9's on & to hide it all away :roll: next job is to make you some new pods for the front 6" JBL's to get a bit better sound from them :roll:

Yes mine other one is an 800. Would like some pics of your shelf?? To be honest I think the speakers in my mav are quite good, with the tweeters, just turn the bass down and let the sub handle it. How are your subs in? Where does the shopping go?? :lol:

I'll take some photo's of the shelf tomorrow for you & if you could send me your email address i'll send them to you :smile: The shelf is made from 18mm MDF & has 2 strengtheners runing across it made from 18mm MDF. It dose take some getting out because os the way I made it but that was because I had my competion system nicked 12 years back :twisted: so I now make them as secure as poss.
There is a photo of my boot in the gallery & it show the amount of space i've got left for the shopping but you'll be surprised how much you can pack into the boot once you learn how :lol: but it may be all coming out to get rebuilt so I can make room for another amp -rotfl-

Ive had five vans and two cars broke into over 3 years in my drive!

I live in a nice area as well 8O my neighbours think ive upset some people cause they dont get touched!!
