Hi.
the truck has developed a problem over the last couple of weeks. Every bump, pot hole or even cats eyes cause steering wobble. It feels like something at the front is very loose. Its horrible to drive on the road never mind off road. I have tried pulling on the linkages and nothing feels loose. Any suggestions before i start pulling things apart?

look at the anit roll bar. ends could be lose, and the noise making you think some thing else is lose

bad arb links would not cause steering wobble, something more serious is going on I suspect the tie bar NS to OS or maybe the idler, where are you in Sussex, Rick

How can you check if the idler is faulty?

if you watch it while someone wiggles the steering wheel the ball joint end will go up and down, Rick

Just jack up the n/s and shake it , it will be fooked , they always are

looks like the left hand tie rod at the wheel. definite slack. Any special tools required?

Once the nut is off,a few good strikes with a hammer will dr you could use a ball joint splitter/Pickle fork in yank terms.

The workshop manual calls it a tie rod but the parts suppliers call it a track rod??

Another development in this saga. Got the track rod ends, got the ball joint splitter. Decided to spray it all with wd40 ready to change bits on Sunday when i found this! It could explain a lot, they generally work better when the top of the shock is attached to the bottom :doh

Yeah i have noticed that they work better when attached.At least you have found the problem.And you have the track rod ends,so may as well get both jobs done same,whilst you have your tools out.
