I was wondering if anyone had replaced their standard steering wheel with an after market one :? The reason behind this is I want a smaller wheel as thestandard one feels like an old bin lid  Plus I will get rid of the air bag as well -groovy-
Any help will be most greatfull 8)

Why would you want to get rid of the airbag Sweety? Putting a smaller steering wheel on will make it heavier to steer as well.
I have a leather steering wheel, which is standard, looks a lot better than the plain one, perhaps you could find one of these, if you haven’t got one that is.

Has anyone had owt to do with the Steering Wheel and airbag? my steering wheel has been worn for sometime but now the top smooth finish has come off the wheel and is rough and my hands get covered in little black bits. I have thought about a replacement wheel from a breakers yard but the thought of the air bag really puts me off.

I had an air bag go off on me once for no reason & to be honest it put the whatsits up me  Mines got the standard plastic?PU type & I just don't realy like the feel of it compaired to my old hot hatches which had standard leather s/wheels or after market s/wheels. I was thinking of a 14" wheel as the standard one I think is about 15" or slightly bigger :? so it should'nt make the steering to heavy on road but i'm unsure what it would be like off road

We've all (ithink) got power steering anyway so the difference in steering weight will be negligible.

I'm 99.9% sure the Nissan set up is like other mekes in that dissconecting the battery for 1/2 hour will disscharge the air bag to make it safe to remove

if u take the air bag off itll be mot failure as light will stay on to say theres fault in airbag system

It is illegal to remove an airbag you have to have training and a shotgun lisence if you want to dactivate them. I had to go on a 2 day course it was great fun exploding airbags I swear i coulnd't hear a thing after one went off and i was only about 10ft away.
The Airbag is also a key safety device it is needed for the mot and will invalidate your insurance if removed It will be regiistered on the computer that the mot testers use.

I use to work for a fiat garage and the boss took an air bag apart, we put the charge under a treacel tin and let it rip! The tin went right through the workshop roof! We fell about laughing!

To get around that you just pull the fuse or take out the bulb
Terranokid just to let you know I'm trained to remove air bags & seat belt pre tensioners ,had to go to rover HQ to do the course
I'll never forget the 1st time I set off a pre tensioner  I had to retrim a seat & forgot to put the locking pin in  put the seat on the metal work bench, went to my toolbox & bang 8O I almost hit the garage roof

Thats ok but I am sure people who have never been trained would'nt understand how dangerous an airbag or tensioner can be when your the wrong side of the charge.
