Ok, Been out this morning and had a look at the truck, Jacked it up and removed the wheel. I removed the brake pads and yes a little low but complete and not broken up.
Put the wheel back on after having a look around and took it down the road nice and steady, While i was out no noticeable problems and did not lock up.

When i got back home the wheel was very hot as were the wheel nuts, nearly to hot to hold for more than a couple of seconds, felt the other one and that was warm but not hot.

Does that help with any answers at all?.

Mav, is there any play in the wheel bearing?
Did Nellie over tighten the bearing, this can make them get hot?
Is there any noise?
Is the car pulling to the side that is getting hot (brakes binding)
Does the wheel turn freely when jacked off the ground, try it when cold then hot to see if there is a difference, compair it to the otherside.
Is all working when in 4x4?
I've not fully got into the Patrol front setup yet and don't know if it has a needle bearing in the hub the same as a T2/Mav!!!!!!!

I'll have a look at the manual?

Thanks Gego,

I cound not be sure of that,

steering pulling to left.

hi mav.
i had same problem as you discribe (ie) hub getting hot ,iposted onsite and plank came back with the tip of egg cup full of engine oil in both front hubs.within 25 miles big improvment as it breaks down the oil grease a little and lubs up the hub. and improved the fuel economy.
2.5 yrs later they are still fine .

perhaps with nellie being stood for long time this could be the problem.
does the hubs look the same as terrano . are they auto hubs?

pulling on the steering

there could be another reason for the pulling, they all seem to say that 1 caliper could be binding, this could be true, but it could also be that the opposite caliper isnt working due to being siezed, the steam could be due to the working caliper working very hard, harder than usual

Mav, have you not got access to the Patrol CD Manual. It shows a good picture of front set up

Had a look at mine for Y61 Patrol. The front hub is similar to the T2/Mav not exactly, its also got a needle bearing holding the driveshaft inside the hub, my hubs say auto and lock and they are changed with a wheel key. there's a clutch and snap ring inside!!!!!!!

I don't see why Nissan would have changed the set up much for newer cars??????

Ssteve,

Other side seems to be working fine.

------------------------------------------------

IanDouglas,

How and where would you put the egg cup full of oil in?,
I am not sure if they are like the Terrano ones, but mine are manual hubs.

----------------------------------------------

Funtime,

There’s not steam just heat, I am starting to go towards the caliper now, Mat be wants striping down.

----------------------------------------------

Gego,

No I haven’t got the manual yet, as for the needle bearing holding the drive shaft may be this would mean more to me if I saw the pictures, But I will follow up.

Thanks to all of you for your help.

steering pulling to left.

hi mav.
on the terrano/mav front hub is a ring of allen key bolts 8 i think.
remove those carefully draw end cap off shaft ,clean mating surfaced up and turn it on its back pore engine oil in refit to shaft bolt up again .job done on mine in 5 mins .
now go for a drive to warm oil/grease up due to friction in hub.

Top man as always IanDouglas, Will have to try that seem like a good all round tip.

Nipping of to look at a Terrano 2000 Sport 2.4 petrol in the morning so i will let you know what happens.

steering pulling to left.

hi mav.
ALL CREDIT MUST BELONG TO PLANK.
HIS TIP.
rgds.iandouglas

mine does that sometimes, can be left can be right. sometimes
slightly, sometimes really bad!!! 8O

cant say i,ve really noticed hubs or nots really hot? will check tho.

pulling can be other things than just brakes, play in bearings,
worn panhard rod or steering link bushes.

excessive heat says bearings to me tho?
