I seem to have quite a lot of free play in my Terrano steering. Can anyone point me in the right direction of correcting it.:nenau

Nissan designed the steering on friday afternoon following a pub lunch
There's too many bits to guess . You need to take the weight off the wheels and see what slops around most. Most probably track rod ends or steering idler or drag link or steering box or even your bushes :doh
Enjoy :lol

Heres what i done:

Under the battery tray is the steering box. What I done was take the battery out and bend the tray up:eek::doh only way to access the box. There are one or two adjuster bolts, I can't remember how many:eek: on top of the box. I tightened these up it took some of the play out the box

WARNING, dont adjust it too tight, with make the truck handle like a pig for some bizarre reason

Yeah... It won't go around corners anymore.:doh

There was a thread on here on how to do the adjustment, it was essential to check the steering lock to lock as over adjustment causes tight spots and can be very dangerous.

In engineering, there is a technical term called " lost motion" I think the term could be used and adapted to describe this type of steering,:lol, as said earlier, there are so many bushes and joints, the minor wear in all components add up.

As a guide, with the engine turned off, you should be able to rock the steering wheel about 35 mm with the lightest finger pressure, when everything is within tolerance.

Good luck.
