going on holiday tomorrow morning to norfolk with the grandkids , so checked all fluids etc before , and noticed little bubbles in the rad  and a bit of white froth .

i really really dont wanna spoil the grandkids holiday with us , so decided to put some steel seal in ( instructions said 2 bottles for 2.5 ltrs to 4 ltr engines ) mines a 3.1 so 2 bottles , i followed the instructions precisely ,

my question is ive since heard this stuff damages engines

is this true ? because i cannot afford another vehicle or a hg repair and dont wanna let the grandkids down

we set off at 7am tomorrow morning ( weds )

urgent help chaps and advice please :bow:bow:bow

That'll learn you to sell the Terrano
"Have heard" from where? Just read instructions and keep calm, Mr last minute dot com :lol

As you say
"Life isn't about how to survive the storm,
but how to dance in the rain. "
Have a good holiday ,when you come back you can drain it out and refill with water . Can't do much harm in a week. David.

just go for it, take lots of water with you in a jerry can or sommit, keep an eye on temp gauge. Worst case is you have to fill it up every 10 miles after its boiled over

have you not noticed the froth before Pete, some engines do this anyway, it depends on the layout of the plumbing, if it is a new thing then the additive may well sort it, and I do not think it will hurt your engine, Rick

ive heard it blocks up the waterways causing overheating ........ this really really scares me as i cannot afford another vehicle .

ps sparky .... yours is swb , and manual too ..... no good to me anyway , also its not free

If your not covered by recovery then buy it online ASAP for peace of mind. Take loads of water and take it easy but you would be anyway with the kids in the car. I used K Seal in mine when I had the leak 2 or 3 years ago and it's still there and mine hasn't caused any problems.

Jim

PS have a good holiday :thumbs

Is it over heating then?? are you having problems with it Briggie or were you just looking to hard, if it aint broke, leave it alone, will you be towing the van or are you going solo

ive used steel steel on loads of motors showing signs of headgasket problems with no disasters. its a quick fix but not a long term solution. it wont cause any damage and is usually good for a couple of thousand miles. unlike other pour in solutions this formula does not contain metal fibres which are used to fill holes in the headgasket, this stuff uses chemical reaction to fill the gaps. it needs to be mixed with a good quality coolant. the ones with the fibres cause the problems because they block the thermostat causing overheating.

hope this helps:thumb2

holiday delayed for a few hours

grandkids have been held up , .......surprise visitor for my grandaughter , so wont be setting off till about 10am , thanks for all the advice:thumb2 , im going to gamble , yes i have rac cover and rac disabled response too so hopefully i wont need it .

im not towing a caravan ...... we have a static caravan in norfolk , and knowing the grandkids i will have to stop a few times on the way down to norfolk :augie:rolleyes:.

will post again when i get there ..... should be about tea time hopefully after the many grandkid wee wee stops .........." are we there yet grandad ?" ......i need a wee :lol:lol

Do you wana pick this power pack up on your way home?

will ring / text you phil ,

well we got here without too much drama , temp gauge didnt go above halfway ,didnt use any water either , so the conclusion is , its done something good albeit a temp fix perhaps .......draw your own conclusions :nenau

Working

Older post I know. But I have used steel seal a few times over the years. Only once never worked for me but was on an mg and was using a rubber gasket. Other than that it's worked on a pajero, xtrail, xtrail, xtrail, ka, ☺never had it cause blockage issues.
