I've lusted over Icelandic arches for ages but they're just too expensive.
I have already cut my wings and arches to make plenty of room for my 35s. Yet never really got to grips with how I'd finish them off.
Rubber is the cheap and popular way out, but this is the Black Pearl :sly
As my front wings are cut back there's no strengthening lip. Well there is now :D
Just grinding back the edge ready for welding .

Then I've got a strip of 1.2mm steel 1100 x 100 to form the shape.

Inducing a bit of a slope away from the wing cause I can and it looks gooood :naughty

Got the boy to do the zipping up lest I put hole back in were there weren't any before :lol

Here a zip there a zip , keeps the warp away :)

I'll be trimming it back a bit eventually so there's just enough to keep plod off my case
Work in progress :splif

looking good:thumb2
I cut some strips of steel ages ago at work to extend my arches but ended up just using rubber in the end.:lol:lol

That lad of yours has got a mighty steady hand.......very nice job.....:thumb2

That's not as neat as he likes either :lol What with the suspect amount of steel remaining in the wing and trying to avoid warpage :clap
It's all building up his portfolio . He's getting lots of extra jobs coming in now. So pleased for him, we just need a workshop now

Well, he has got another 3 to do.

Last one will be perfect......:clap:thumb2

looking good there:thumb2

I think I have seen this approach somewhere before:nenau

just a pointer for the rears. if you cut the outer skin and leave the inner, then push the sheet against the inner and weld the outer, you can fold the inner around and under getting a good seal and it really strengthens the arch:thumb2

Great minds and all that :thumbs
Thanks for the tips.
My rear arches are already tubbed so there is no lip or skins to cut. I'll simply be adding a strip again to the underside and weld weld weld :D

Shame you don't live close to me, I'd be buying his time every month :lol

Not much time tonight after this that n the other . Still got a bit of trimming done ;)
Based on the old plastic tat and added a bit for luck :lol

After a bit of sanding the edge to a fair curve I got the first dollop of glass filler on .

I found just the right spoon in the drawer to get the shape I liked :sly

Onwards and upwards :naughty

Did notice that it was a bit rough and not up to his normal standard, but a lot does depend on conditions at the time, in a good draft free workshop it is better than out doors, but frame of mind at the time also plays a part, untill you have been doing it so long that that no longer applies, Rick

Looks great:thumbs your going to have fun sanding down the fibreglass found rubbing it down just before it sets solid helps loads. Are you going to treat it to a skim of body filler also:augie

Yep body filler finish to follow. I have a sandpaper wheel thing that goes on my drill. Have that smoooooth in minutes ;) I trim GRP green but not the filler stuff, just incase it drags.

Had to weld it in short zips too Rick, trying to avoid warpage. The wing is not the best quality steel either :lol
Still good penetration though, so all's well :thumbs

Here you go Alex, get your kleenex out :sly
Got a bit of sanding tonight on the fibreglass filler.

A bit more spooning with ordinary filler got this ;)

More sanding and a bit of primer so I can see easily where the fine filling needs to happen :D

I hope the weather holds a bit longer , then I'll have one corner done

nice, yes can see the short welds as per heat pattern on underside, Rick

Looking good Pete:thumbs can see a few spots that need some more sanding/filler action but don't think it'll take to long to sort them out & as they say it's all the prep work that makes the final coat of paint look good:augie

Indeed. Was keen to get a coat of primer on to see the extent of fine filler needed, Also to stop the rust build up over night. :thumb2
Really frustrating working from home and the weather's so good but bills need paying so paperwork needed doing more
