Guys this is driving me mad!!!

Every time I jump in my truck now since the temperature has started to drop, all my windows steam up something stupid and the only way I can clear them effectively is to either drop both front windows completely or whack the heaters on full blast on hot but this only clears the front screen.

Do you guys get this issue? How can I stop it from happening as it's really driving me crazy

Had this in my astra had the pollen filter changed(mice had invaded) the smell went and the steaming up got a lot better.
Tony
I don't have this problem in the Nav as the climate control and AC are excellant .

That's interesting as the motor didn't have a pollen filter when I brought it and I've just fitted a new one, maybe I'll take it back out again and see how I get on

switch your aircon on , but with heating on too , it will clear the windows

The Td doesn't have a pollen filter as far as I am aware...:nenau
Well mine doesn't anyway.

The other thing is that the lever for the recirculate function has become disconnected from the flap that diverts either outside air or recirculated air.

If the lever is easy to move, or you don't hear the flap close then investigate it.
Engine off for this test ...

OR worse if the heater matrix has gone you will get wet carpets, fluid loss, that horrible smell from the heater and lots of steamy windows.

Or if this only happens late at night parked up in country lanes, then I wouldn't be too concerned.:naughty nothing wrong with your equipment.:augie

Well there wasn't a filter in there when I got the car but there was certainly a slot for it as I've fitted it lol

My motor doesn't have air con or at least I don't think it has, I have no obvious "A/C" switches, I just have the normal temperature slider, the fan speed slider, directional slider (windows, vents, footwells etc) and then one with a picture of a car with an arrow that swirls round inside the car and the other end the arrow comes into the car from outside

When I move this slider it is easy and does make the re-assuring "clunk" when the flap opens/closes

No wet carpets and no funky smells so I presume my matrix is fine

And nope lol, no country lanes haha

I might remove the filter, clean the inside of the windows and then try again with different combinations of heater settings, it's just stifling when I have to have it on full blast and freezing when I have to have both windows fully down.

When the old Volvo was doing that, we eventually found the boot under carpet was soaking wet. The water was running down from the roof hinges, behind the panels, and into the soundproofing, so no wet carpets. Fixed leak, and put a low wattage electric greenhouse heater in the boot for a couple of weeks each night, not only dried the inside outs, but saved having to de-ice the windows on the frosty mornings.:lol

Most times I have had Steaming up issues, it has been damp somewhere, coupled with a dirty screen.

Also, as said the re-circulate air, when on really does steam up the windows, so it sounds like from what you say that it is not flipping over.

Deffo no leaking I've checked everywhere!! But will re-check tonight after work

I have just thought though, I still haven't put my roof lining back in from when I drilled my roof to fit my roof bars and spotlights, could this have any effect or am I just being stupid?

So which settings should I be using to clear the windows?

My last T2 did this and was a pain in the winter, the front screen demister was crap as well, i just thought that's what they do, some vehicle clean the screen really fast but other don't. The new one is much better, it clears the screen very fast and doesn't mist up as bad as the old one did.
You could try a cleaner that says it helps stop misting up:nenau

put the headlining back! condensation, condensation condensation!

I would have thought that here would be some condensation on the inside of the roof too, if there is no roof lining in.:nenau

I have found this being a long term transit van owner and driver, the rear load area always drips with condensation in the winter, while in the front with a liner over your head, lovely and dry :thumb2

So which settings should I be using to clear the windows?

It wants to be on the one that shows the arrow coming through the car from the bonnet, rather than the one that does a "U" turn (Re-cycle)

I don't think the re-cycle is much help unless you have aircon. If fact my Volvo V70 would automatically select re-cycle when the climate control was on, and fresh air when it was off, unless you over-rode it.:clap

you get condensation even when the lining is in, when me and my friend removed the lining on my swb, we were surprised how many hanging droplets of water were on the roof panel, and it wasn't even leaking, so even when a vehicle is water tight, it can still get in:rolleyes:

it sounds like youve got a problem with ventilation :doh

So it's unanimous then, it's the condensation that's causing the foggy windows?

I do get very very small water droplets form on the roof but never enough so that it starts to drip

This takes me back to my issue of trying to find a new roof lining then lol

Mine mists up and always has, here's what I've found.

New pollen filter always helps as it lets more air through. If yours has been without have you now got a build up of crap in the aircon unit causing a lack of air flow?

Check aircon works, it dries the air out so clears the mist. Mine has packed in and I'd love to get it fixed but just too skint.

As said about the recirculate lever but you sound to of tested this.

A hidden leak can cause issues too.

I wouldn't have thought a new pollen filter would have let more air through though that doesn't make sense, I would have said it would have restricted the air flow in a way but just filtered all of the nasty stuff out

People keep talking about air con but I swear I don't have it, can someone show me a pic of their Mav/Terrano's control panel so I can compare?

The re-circulate is definitely working as I hear the clunk and the air flow kind of makes a different sound in each position and when I direct it to come from outside the car it seems more powerful

I know 99% I have no leaks

I don't think you need much of a leak to get excessively steamy windows, rubber seal on top of the back door? I think with this weather and getting in there with wet coats and boots on, leaving windows open etc it soon builds up. I used to put a dehumidifier and a heater in mine over night every time I had this issue, that seemed to fix it. Plus, you can get anti fog glass cleaner, that helps :thumb2

If the old one has been i a while it gets full of crap, hence it restrits air flow, a new one will be back to normal, it wont be extra air flow

It may not have it, it was an optional extra. Its a little button next to the fan speed control and it lights up blue. You can'rt miss it if its fitted.

I think you sir have just cracked it!!!! I run my CB aerial via the back door and just shut it over it!!!

I might disconnect it and see if that improves the situation
