Does anyone know if there's a gear/clutch related sensor which prevents the engine starting if stopped in gear (manual gearbox)?

The reason I ask is recently I've gone to start the truck only to have a 'click' upon turning the ignition key. First time it did it I depressed the clutch pedal and it started. Second time I had to move the gears around then back to neutral before it started!

Battery seems to have plenty of charge so my only assumption is a possible starter problem unless anyone knows of anything else.

Regards

No there isn't.

If your battery is fine this is a classic case of burnt-out ignition switch.

You need to pop to the Nissan dealer and buy just the backplate (not the whole barrel)...its £30-odd from memory and just attached with a couple of phillips screws as I recall.....

The test is to turn the key VERY VERY slowly and see if it catches. If so, theres your issue.

Whivch is not to say it isn't a loose starter cable or earth strap, but......

Ah, thanks lacroupade, now I do remember reading about that before come to think of it. Got to pop out in a bit so I will give it a try and see if it is related to the switch.

Is the replacement an easy'ish job?

it is if I managed it LOL.

Think you need to remove the lower part of the steering wheel shroud is all.....bit fiddly as its easy to bust so take care with it....
