My terrano has decided its gonna develop a starting problem, you turn the key and it cranks & cracks & cranks with no starting to the point the battery goes flat.

I have volt tested battery & alternator both are ready as they should.
i do usually need to pump the accelerator but even this ain't helping no more.

got battery upstairs on charge, all cells look fine & plenty of fluid/acid

HELP I NEED TO GET TO COLLEGE IN THE MORNING :doh :(

Golden rule, 3 things a car needs:

Compression

Ignition

Fuel

Edit: Air too lol, but least likely

Runs absolutely perfect once it starts, goes faster when u ask n slows down when asked(well to a degree cos brakes have alot of travel before they bite).

no glow plug lights on, do have a slight fuel leak (nothing major) but pumping the petal should prime out any air and run on standard pump diesel.

starter switch has been tested for any break in wiring from ignition barrel to starter motor.

air filter & fuel filter were changed recently so shouldn't be them and yes fuel filter was put back on right tight.

i've got no idea  but cheers anyho

"no glow plug lights on" think thats your problem prob glow glug relay put multimeter on one of the plugs to be sure

I trust you with my life and all that but seeing as you've said that I'd be going with that, as the starting issue didn't develop until you did that, have you primed the pump with the pusher on the top and did it go solid? Also undo the white screw on the top of the filter and then pump and just make sure it's pure Diesel coming out and not air followed by Diesel

I had this issue too after replacing my filter

did that when i first got it (jan '12) n they were fine, it does come on when u first put the key in & 1st turn of ignition but goes out quickly? will check tomorrow as i don't have a multimetre here, cheers

never undid the screw, but did prime it with the black pushy thing tho.

96terrano where are the glow plug earths??

cheers

erm, what earth ? I thought they "earth" through the block .
Relay light can be on but not getting power to the rail. Wires/connectors can corrode up there in the wing.
Also the timer part of the relay can fail.

it does it when it hot as well as cold tho? does that not eliminate glow plugs?

on mine, there's a wire going from buzz bar into the engine loom

yes thats the erm ... the power lead, where did u think power came from :lol

They earth through the block, many components on a car just earth off the body or the block/gear box etc

buzz bar is on the positive side of things:doh:doh

Is your's TDi intercooler or TD std ?
When you say "hot" how long after last running is the next start ?
I'm pretty sure the glow plugs are on every time it starts, but the timer circuit will shorten the run time if engine temp is up.

td standard, it can be anything from 5mins to half an hour between starts just depends what i'm doing lol but when its warm the temp gauge does read between minimum & 1/4

Well it's a simple check then stick a multi meter on the glow plugs or a light bulb. After that it's fuel issues I guess.
