Ok all hey!
Bought my Nissan Terrano yesterday ;-) 2001 2.7TD.

I was told to open the car with the key, the hazzards would flash and then popping the key in the ignition and turning for the glow plugs to engage would stop the flashing and allow the truck to be started. Guy I bought it off demo's that a number of times.

Got home and went to go out in the truck. Tried to open the door - Hazards flashing, key in ignition then click - dashboard totally off - no power at all. Tried locking the car with the key - nothing. Lifted the bonnet - wiggled some wires on the positive battery side - heard a click - dashboard back on - but clock read 12.00 - tried to start car - dashboard blank.

Repeated the above - this time locked car, waited, opened car and we started. I'm now going through this pain everytime I start the car! Its just been serviced new battery etc. Guy I bought it from hasn't had this problem before.

Any ideas?

Also noticed a heater problem - cant get the air to blow up over to demist the window - but lots of air is blowing - just not too sure where to.

Are these common faults easily fixed - thanks guys!

well, could be a few things, first thing I reckon is power. I think your positive cable to the starter is either cracked or the clamp is broken. Other things are ignition switch - if it is burnt out, then that will cause issues.

next, bad earth-all the earth cables are easy to see and clean-do that, plus the negative battery lead.

Next, I would be looking at NATS, could be an issue there perhaps, or you have an issue with the central locking.

as your dash lights go out, I think its almost certainly a bad connection form the battery to the starter or a bad earth...!

go...wiggle wires, tighten screws, check clamps!

**as for the air, when you move the lever to the windscreen position, is there resistance, can you here the mechanism moving?? If not, if it feels slack, then its broke...if that's the case, look at the dash-does it look like its been removed?

Thanks for that - I'll go a wiggling and a tightening now.

As for the heater - yup there is resistance and I can here the mech moving. The knob for the heat temp is missing on the other side - but that just needs a screwdriver to alter for now...

could be then, that the ducting is broken. You can get at it by removing the center console and central dash surround-the vents come out to reveal the ducting, and behind that, the windscreen ducting. If you can, trace where the air is blowing on all settings-it has to be going somewhere...!!
