hello there everyone ,im wondering if anyone can shed some light on my situation , since this cold snap everytime i turn the key the starter will click and not turn over i turn it again it starts fine ,
today i turned it but it clicked as if not turning tghe engine then sort of makes a whirring noise it took about six attemts before finally engaging the engine into life could this be the battery or starter does anyone know ,the battery has a green light in it to say its ok but doe sanyone know anything different ,this only started when the cold weather came along .any pointers would be usefull

Check/clean the earth on the starter motor , had the same on my series landy so run an earth strap direct from starter to chassis, problem solved.

or ignition switch backplate burnt out. if turning key very slowly works then thats the issue.

If the above solves it :clap :thumbs

If not :(

You will need another starter :(

Having said that my 1 lasted 10 months before it gave up the ghost :thumbs

Towards the end i had to turn the key whilst tapping the solenoid :doh

i know i had to....

ignition switch. try turning dead slow if it wont start

Check the motor and solinoid seperately, mine was just clicking (solinoid kicking out) but wasnt turning over.
remember the solinoid also acts in a way as a relay.
When i powered up the motor it turned, and when i powered up the solinoid it kicked out, but wouldnt supply motor with feed so when on the car it just clicked.

Check that you get continuity between the thick threads of the solinoid when it is powered up.

I got a new solinoid for £17! saved me getting a new starter!

cheers all ive got a lot to think about now i will try the slow ignition turn first but the rest will have to wait till the snows gone on the drive (no garage cod hamds lol), will try all that advice though many thanks to everyone ,if all else fails does anyone know the best place to source a cheap starter?

Milners next delivery :thumbs

Got mine from Motex though as i needed it instant :thumbs

tried turning key slowly today no difference took 11 12 turns of key to kick in but every time i turn the key no slow moving engine just no contact with engine and thenn aawhirring noise as if motors spinning ,
on the third attempt it caught engine engine ran for two seconds then died ,what i have noticed when it is running is that when you siit and rev it when it hits about 2000 2500 it has a hesitency in it as if the best way i can describe is when you have a petrol car and you rev it and its missing something somewhere it drives fine but only when revving you can notice this miss or something like a burble and then off only just over 2-2500 revs if that makes sense to anyone , its just with reading about this no 1 injector dont quite understand that and also i still have the intermittent rev c iounter problem which sets the mil light off but still drives mayve the two connected im not sure ,im lost without my terrano but failing no one having no further ideas or even being able to make sense of what i have written lol its a new starter after xmas and go from there many thanks guys:thumbs

I think Briggie has a starter but pos he has sold it, I only have petrol versions, Rick

if it is a 2.7 diesel one it should fit Pete,

the big thick wire is exposed too , although apparently it still works ( havent tried it ) ,needs a good clean up , but gimme wot i paid for it ( £55 ) and arrange postage /collection , and its yours

this is what i mean rick

yes, I agree with getting a NEw starter, as the No1 injector is about £120 ish and just as much work to replace, as doing the starter. Thing is, once the starter turns the engine, thats its job done, isnt it? so could there be some other issue, such as glow plugs, fuel or something along those lines?

have you checked the codes?? could be some vital clues there....
