starter motor removal/overhaul & dip stick tube snapped

Hi All,
I've took my starter motor off for a overhaul due to not starting, question is, is there an easier way to fit/remove the starter motor i accessed it thru the arch with wheel off but the 3 evil scum sucking nuts where a rite royal pain in the pants, i'd like to say inching them off but it wasn't even that more like milling em off. There's got to be an easier way (besides going to garage and have someone else struggle)

Also whilst i got it off and out of way found the dip stick tube is snapped just below the bracket, is it fixable or is it a replacement jobbie? Do they even sell these bits? I dread to think of the telephone number nissan would want for it.

PS is there anything imparticular i should check and look for on the starter motor and solenoid? What load should it take etc. (off car loading and details ta)

Hopefully it'll be one step closer to going again tom

I was just thinking that Ian :lol: it worked on my P/S cooler pipes & has been dry as a bone since on the side I did just got to do the other side now as that is spring a leak :evil:

that'll be what i'll try thought of some delicate soldering but not sure what metal it is yet, but tube over is a much easier choice, might use shrink wrap so heat won't cause probs

If you measure the dip stick tube & then pop into your local car parts place you should be able to get a bit of pipe as 3" long for a few pennies but make sure it can handle oil otherwise it'll just rot :roll: I would then fit 2 hose clips 1 at each end to make sure you get no more leaks :wink:

At least when i have to smash my new starter motor past it, it'll bend.
I recon thats how i'd been done previous. Who's stupid idea was it to fit the motor down there, can't get a socket on owt, spanners only move a mil at a time all that car and they squashed it down there under everything they could. If it wasn't done for I'd of been tempted to change it so i don't have to go there anytime soon.

PS any good oil cleaner recomendations to clear it up round there.

think i got the top one with a 28" 1/2" drive ext bar with a u/j on the bottom end from under the bonnet , not a bad job really (45 mins at most, off and new one on)hardest bit was paying for new one £80 approx 8O

whats that on steve, t2? it was hailing (8pm) at the time and many many swears where been thrown out, even so don't think i can stretch to 28" seem to have lost about 3 long extensions too.

I would wipe off what you can with a rag etc & use a can of brake cleaner/carb cleaner to shift the rest as i've found it quiet good in the past & once you have it all back together again if you have a preasure washer or can borrow one give it a good blast which that
