Hi guys, sorry this isnt terrano related but I guess the same principles could apply.
I run a 2003 vauxhall vivaro van 1.9dti and the starter motor has started clicking, usually on cold start up.
Now I understand that its the solonoid making the noise because its probably sticking and not engaging the motor.
My question is...if I remove the starter from the van is it something that I may be able to fix/service myself by stripping and cleaning it ir is it better just to replace?

are you sure its not a flat battery syndrome or a knackered starter?

you could try giving the starter a bit of friendly persuasion with a plank of wood or a whack with a scaffold (not too hard) :lol

Some people have also rocked back and forth in gear to catch the starter motor in the right position too.

Just some ideas

If the starter is clicking try giving it a whack (not to hard) with a hammer on the solenoid if it then starts fine the problem is with the solenoid, not sure if you can do anything to them tho

Sorry guys let me explain a little more...
Sometimes when i go out to the motor from cold start, i turn the key and the starter clicks, let go of the key and try again and it clicks, sometimes this can go on for a few attempts.
So far having tried a few times it always then spins over and starts straight up.

I assume the clicking is the solenoid but seems to be sticking and not engaging the flywheel.

The battery is fine by the way

My question is, if i remove the starter from the motor is it feasible for me to strip and clean/ grease it, re-assemble it and re-fit it or should i just buy another one?

might be the electric switch contacts at the end of ignition barrel.i had that on my t2 and it killed my starter, changed both and all well.

in the old en days yes a strip and rebuild could be done but now?
