Anyone had this happen to them?? My window wipers make such a squeal when they are turned on that I am demented when driving in the rain. i thought it needed new blades, which were fitted today with no effect. I have traced the problem to the nearside wiper arm motor. I think it has loosened on its mounts and is rubbing. If definitely moves more than the offside one.

I have put some grease on it in the interim but would like to get at the wiper motors. There is nothing in the manual that i can find on this problem.

anyone have this problem before and how do you inspect the wiper motors - I cant see how to remove the cowl below the windscreen (or do I have to remove dash and do it from inside??

Regards
Lee

I did the job last year and due to my crap memory I cant remember exact details but it doesnt take long, you dont need to work inside the car at all (apart from testing them ;) ) and you do have to remove the black cowling to get to the nut that holds the mechanism onto the motor spindle if I remember that bit correctly!!

Its one of those jobs that when you look at the motor and its surounding area its clear which bits to undo as you go :thumbs

remove wiper arms then covers on spindles and oil the spindle while wiper is running
should cure it.

I get this all the time:dohI have play in the driver side sindle for the arm, but it's still working & have had the lovely noise for 2.5 years now:augiefound if I spray some black to black (silicon based) on the spindle it'll shut it up for 2-5 weeks depending on rain:thumbsbut I carry the bottle under the rear seat just incase:lol

I have oiled and greased it as above and whilst the noise has minimised it is still there - challenging me to kick its a*"se.

The nearside motor has dropped slightly in its housing and must be rubbing on something.

Anyone know how to remove the cover just below the windscreen to access the motors? There seems to be ???plastic rivits keeping it in place. I dont want to force them incase they break.

Yeh, just pull harder. Did mine last week. Got a new spindle thing from Mr Scrap about 10 min job:thumbs
WD40 only works for a while anyway as its more release agent than oil.
Get some spray 3 in 1

Thanks Steve

I havent seen the unit so your probably right - silly me. The nearside arm seem to be lower and looser than the rest so Im thinking it is either the motor housing has loosened or something else has loosened.
