Hi all,

I have a squeaky noise (I think thats the best way to describe it) coming from somewhere in the transmission. It makes the noise if you let off the throttle when driving but goes if you push the clutch in or go back on the throttle. Is there any obvious faults on these before I start to delve in there.?

Oh, it's a 2004 2.7 diesel

Cheers,

Clutch Thrust Bearing ??

would be noisy when stationary (engine turning) but probably go when clutch depressed whether in gear or not

If squeak occurs when rolling without engine on in neutral then probably a drive shaft or prop shaft

GOOD LUCK !!

Defiantly not props etc. The thrust bearing is a bit noisy so it may well be that. Odd nose though for one, not a rumble as normal.

UJs ok on props? Theres also a weird flange guard thing on the end of the transfer box to rear prop. I've had that come loose and make noises.

I shall have a look at the flange you mentioned. The thrust bearing is still doing the rumbling so I don't think it would be that. I think I will pull the gearbox and sort the thrust bearing anyway, it drives me mad. Might as well fit a new clutch while I'm there and sort out the spongy pedal problem. I will go through the transmission parts while I'm doing it until I find it ;) It's a good car and worth sorting things to keep it going for a long while yet
