Spent the afternoon fitting the new spring bumpers.

I had already bought an 18" breaker bar. Sooooo much easier to shear bolts off now, much easier than trying to do it with a standard ratchet!

:D

Had to drill out and re-tap the bolts, unfortunately I must have been off centre on one, because one bolt would not hold. So, drilled it clearance and put a bolt through with a spring washer and nut inside the chassis rail.

:thumbs

All done and dusted!!!

Next month, new shocks!

:thumb2

P.S. I think I may be spending too much time on this forum, whilst doing this I had a curious feeling of wanting to paint my rear brake drums satin black...

... maybe even with...

... oh god no...

... Hammerite....

I think I need help!

I think you need to talk about this......how can we help.......

I think we could all help with colour choice as satin black sounds a little tame

That wasn't really the kind of help I was looking for !

:doh

I was thinking more like... ... therapy... ... or at the very least some kind of medication !!

:banghead:

THAT word is like ringing the bell at Pavlov's dogs!!!

One mention and everyone starts drooling

:lol:lol:lol

However...

... now that we seem to have gone through the looking glass on this one.

What paint would you recommend for my rear brake drums?

Must be black (sorry folks but that's my final word on colour), and I would probably go satin.

Hell, we've gone this far, I might as well paint 'em ! It may be the only way to stop this involuntary twitching.

Well if long lasting heavy duty is needed then hammerite in a tin all the way, can be made to look nice if brushed well.

If you want a dead smooth finish ect then halfords satin black spray :thumb2

To mis-quote:

"So this is how it ends...

...not with a bang, but with a tin of Hammerite"

:clap

(Not worth trying to spray, got some pitting on the outside so may as well brush with H'rite)

(Love the way simple threads expand in this place!)

:D

Only thing is, IIRC Hamerite actually takes several days to actually dry. The surface drys in hours, but under it stays wet, so if you paint the hub, you will not be able to put the wheel back on without fear of it getting stuck... The other thing is, don't forget the drums will get very hot, which I am not sure if Hamerite will be able to handle.

You really want to go for a proper Brake or stove paint.

I've seen hammerite on an exhaust :naughty it balloons up :naughty

Should be ok on the hubs I reckon? :nenau

BBQ paint should do the job, heatproof, quick-drying, easy to brush on and a nice satin black finish!

I bet that's pretty tough stuff actually? :sly

Some creature of the night has put a scratch on my bonnet above the scoop near the screen. I'm getting closer and closer for a custom "Alex style" paint job :lol :naughty

Now this I can advise on. You want matt black for a bonnet.

Always looks the mutts!!!
