i used two 30a relays with seperate lives/earths one for each set spotties using 100w bulbs in all spots and headlamps waiting for alternator to say enough lol did hav 130 in headlamps but they melted

Sure I read some where that if light s are fitted to roof they are classed as off road use only and can therefore be brighter than 55w and wired independantly to main lights. Also illegal to use on A & B roads.

Maybe wrong, but sure it was in one of links from HB, on construction and use.

I thought so too, but can't find the link now.

On post 1987 motors all bulbs have to be E marked o unless you're going to pay out for very, very, very expensive PIAA bulbs you're stuck with 55 watt ones - though I've never heard of a copper pulling bulbs out to check legality.

Personally I keep the use of spot/driving lights to yellow and white roads, except when really out in the sticks on A and B class roads, there tend to be too much on coming traffic so you're always dipping them. The contrast from spots on to dip beam is so great that its like you've turned em off altogether (or at least it is if you're running good lights) so I'd rather just use main bem if other traffic is about. And really main roads are predictable and signed enough for them to to be necessary it's the winding side roads where they are more useful.

I think i'll just wire them to a switch, not to the main beam, think it'll be easier.
Will have to have some kind of connector near the roof,so i can take it down if the laning has to many low branches!

Steve - technically if not switched with main beam then that makes them for off road use only.

For the bits and pieces you'll need have a look HERE all really pukka stuff. I particularly like their braided sleeving which is a really tidy way of running wires around, it protects the loom from damage very well. You just need to use some shrink rap on either rend to stop it fraying.

You should find they do everything you need to do the job. In reality its not too hard to pick up a feed to switch the spots from the back f the stalk, you need to get a supply from somewhere to throw the relay so why not from there.

I've seen them before & your right the price is good for what you get  But to fit it Cameraman you've got to drill though the roof gutter channel to fit the securing bolts

Or I could just poke a hole in the rust -rotfl-

8O 8O It's not that bad is it  I know some of the light mounts have a CB twig mount on them aswell

No! I was just having a bit of fun at my own expense.

again didnt we have nice lightpod for roof posted ? anyone else recall that?

i'd like to add roof lights but frequent trips into multi story car parks mean they would have to be very low profile or quick release.

seen a screen visor for the r20, recall MAV has one, wonder if one or something similar could be utilized to mount lights in front of curvature of roof.

the other is adding roof bars, mine doesnt have outer rails, then hanging smallish lights from the bar. second prob we have a tilt slide sunroof!!

yep thats the one sweety it looked ok if remember rightly! cor robert so many negatives lol!! do miss sunroof in navra was thinking off getting one put in just to stop steaming up windows

rbrt i've seen loads of roof bars for the LWB on ebay from £55-90 they clamp on when you've got all 4 doors open so will be easy to remove when not needed

Jace the only thing I wondered about was wether it would curve around the roof or it had to be fitted to a flat surface  then you've got to try & hide the wiring

Hiya folks, everybody who asked me a question about the spots on my roof rack I have sent them a pm and hopefully answered all the questions they had, and rbrt its a nightmare for me trying to squeeze into a multi storey car park I dont fit anywhere !!!, since I had my lift done, and in November I will be going taller again lol so I have to park outside and walk everywhere so my lights are ok as I know I cant go where a car can go lol

you may not be allowed i got stopped once in fiat 127 it only had one spot working coper told me they must work if fitted so i got out and booted them off that solved that!

Not heard this before, otherwise they would be an MOT item? Certainly extra lights are not MOT'able, I've presented a car before with a blown spotlight bulb and the examiners reaction was to pull the fuse out so neither of the lights worked.

Besides, if roof mounted lights are illegal on the road*, then having none functioning ones for show cannot be breaking any laws.

*are HGV's exempt to this law, as many that do have roof lights fitted seem to have them wired into main beam.

Hi Johnathan, over N.Ireland the guys in the MOT centers just love something little to pick on, so I dont give them an excuse and turn my spots off by the switch I fitted on my dash and when they ask they are for decoration only lol and they spots are only used with the main beam and only on dark country roads were that extra bit of light may save a little bunny's life when you seem him at a distance

Hey bluebull, where did you get your roofrack?
Is it a Thule?

I have one of the Thule roof racks that I fit when laning etc and carrying awkward loads. Nice bit of kit. Not cheap, but nice........

Edit: Doh,just remembered its the one you can see on my avatar.....
