I was wondering, has anyone found anybody selling a roof bar for putting spot lamps on, that is a bit like the ones they do for the Landrovers.

like this

I want one, which curves over the front windscreen, so I can mount 6 rectangular lights below it, and not raise the vehicle height too much.

Not that I know of but why not buy that one and modify the ends to fit your roof or simply start from scratch :thumbs
I made my own but it fits on the roof rails. See my link, it's in there somewhere lol

Cheers, I saw yours, but you have the advantage of having LWB rails on a SWB, so they come a lot further along the roof. Mine stop right back behind the sunroof. Not sure the light beams from lights under the bars would ever touch down on the ground from that far back.

I wanted to have a go at making something, but don't really have the gear to do it, e.g, a neat way of bending bars, and my arc welding skills are pants.

I was thinking of measuring a defender/discovery next time I see one, and checking the width of that bit above the windscreen, to see how much work it would take to mod, but not only do not know anyone with either, so would have to creap round the car park, but I have not seen a second hand bar at a price where I want to take the risk yet.

just get a roof bar and mount nearer the fron like i did

Thank You,

That was the route I had as my second idea, I just like the way the Landrover ones look like they are meant for the job, rather than a converted roof rack.

Love the way your lights fit under yours though, looks very smart, and is lower than main roof bars, which is what I want to achieve.

Why did you cut the corner off of the support?

I've been looking for the clamp on roof bars (don't have roof rails on my SWB) but I've only managed to find the uber-expensive Mont Blanc ones;

so i could have it further forward and lower down, mine is bolted straight into the roof behind the rubber door seals

Yes I'm also interested in this, and Ive spoke to spudd ref his lights, so I'll be keeping an eye on this, I do know a few lads with discos and if I get chance or see them I'll try and get some dimensions

That would be great.

Ideally I would like one of the nice chrome ones to match my mirrors:D

Shame we don't have any decent AutoJumbles down in Kent, I would look out for one to have a play with.

i might be making a proper one soon as there are none for our trucks

Don't suppose anyone got any further with this?

I was looking at the roof pods, which at first glance, I thought looked pretty smart.

There seem to be 2 types.
Circular lamps, but these have no lamp adjustment. Like this
Rectangular lamps, which have up and down adjustment, but nothing from side to side. Like this
My concerns are,

They are tiny lamp units, and only mounted in an ABS moulding, so if you uprated the bulbs, you would probably melt the plastic.

You are basically stuck with the lights shining where ever they have set them, and the curve of your roof.

They do not carry the "E" markings, so now you have glued them to your car, if an MOT guy looks closely, you will fail the MOT. (Not sure how that works, since the car is before the "E" approval laws, but the mod is obviously after) Not worth the risk as far as I am concerned.

The do not cover the entire roof, so somewhere you have a bit of wire showing where it runs from the lights to the door pillar or where ever you run the cables.

Anyone have an experience of them, and what did you think?

lightbar is a work in progress at the min along with some other projects lol

They must have adjustment.

I wouldn't worry about MOT, Just have a switch to stop them working and say they are offroad only lights.

As for the wire, I would of thought you would have to drill a hole in the roof to run them instead of going to the door pillar.
