Spongy brakes and slothful performance

Hi!

My first post, and I need help please with going and then stopping...

First off, my Terrano is a 95 TD, can they be mechanically tuned to give a bit more oomph? (is this a home job or a specialist?)

And then, the braked get very spongy after a few miles, but disks and pads (and fluid) looks ok! Is there a trick to bleed air out of the system?

IIRC you can adjust the fuel pump to increase performance, but I would have a look 1st to see if you have a mini filter fitted because if it's dirty the performance will drop :roll: & changing the main fuel filter will be a good move aswell :smile:
Regaurding the brakes I would carefully check all of the brake pipes metal & rubber plus the joints for leaks, then strip & check fornt & rear brakes for leaks & give them a good clean up :smile: then I would change the brake fluid as over time it can absorb water :roll:
 
Could be a brake dragging causing the poor performance ad also the spongy brakes as the pads overheat and fade - worth checking anyway.

It's located in the fuel pump. If you have a look in the download section of the site you will find a step by step guide on how to do it
 
We all know what Soggydog will be doing on sunday.

Both are easy jobs and will bring rewards if you find anything that needs doing as you have found them and can do them yourself !
 
spongey brakes

when i bought a terrano last year it had been stood for a while and the front brakes were binding.
stripped them down and found that the pins on the floating part of the caliper had seized up solid.
took an age to get them out.cleaned them up with emery paper and greased them up and it worked a treat.
as for bleeding there is a sequence.i think you start with o/s rear then n/s front then n/s rear then o/s front.
when bleeding ive been told not to do a full pedal stroke as this can damage the piston seals.
