Thanks for that manora, will have a look when the 'kin rain stops!

Another thought, as I've definitely plugged a hole in the vacuum system (the pipe to the EGR was completely split near the solenoid), have I started something else trying to work that previously wasn't? Anyone got a 'map' of the vacuum system on the older TD (non intercooler) engines?

Woohoo, it's fixed!! :D:clap

Had another go at the banjo filter, used a better hook made out of the strengthening bar in a wiper blade - much finer and longer than my previous attempts. This time I found the little blighter - was going to examine it and clean before deciding whether to bin it or not. Well I dropped it getting it out and can't find it, so that solved that little dilemma!:augie Bolted it all back together and went for a buzz down a 'private test track' at 90mph! :clap Never been so good!

So, to all of you who say there isn't a filter in there, just a spring, dig deep - I was amazed at how far down into the pump it was hiding.

Thanks for all the help, classic fix to a Nissan 2.7TD!:bow
