Hi all can anyone help please?
I am working away from home this week doen in leicster, on the way down the m1 i stopped for a pee and when i came back out and started the truck the rev counter, clock light and the fuel and temp gauge had stopped working...
Any ideas what the problem may be and is it an easy fix?
Any help or advice would be grately received.

Had exactly the same problem myself a couple of weeks ago. Got the fix from here but it is deeply buried. Didn't touch anything else so this did fix it and everything is still working fine. The problem is with the ECU getting hung up, probably when you turned the key to re- start the truck. Same situation as myself.

Solution: Disconnect the battery overnight. This allows the ECU to discharge and when you reconnect the battery the ECU re-boots. All should then be well. :clap

PS: I also have cruise control fitted and it also stopped working at the same time. It takes a speed pulse from the ECU hence pointing to the ECU as the culprit.

Hi guys, quick update....checked fuses and fortunately it was one marked meter and was a 10 amp fuse, didnt have one so borrowed it from the aircon slot.

Back up and working again

Cheers

That's brilliant.

Moral of the story...
Carry spare fuses of different ranges and the right type.
Also carry spare bulbs for the same reason.:thumbs

Talking of bulbs...
Last month I bought some of those " Night Breaker "Bulbs for the headlights,
What a great improvement, I had been using the 30% brighter H4's from Aldi, I thought they were good, but these are so much better.:thumbs:thumbs

Best regards,
Rustic

so where do we get those bulbs from...mine are rubbish....very dim

On ebay, Osram Night Breakers from...
Autobestbuy.co.uk

£11.75 pair

Arrive in a nice plastic casing, compared to some that are without retail packging.... hmmmm...

another quick update...

i replaced the 10 amp fuse, all was well....but it has blown twice more....any ideas anyone?

cracked track on the pcb ? ...... obviously a short somewhere to blow a 10a fuse ....... moisture in dash ?

i guess examine back of cluster for damaged / cracked / burnt track .... there are companies who specialise in diagnostics / repair for these , but try looking for the above yourself .

okay cheers....i am working away this week so i will just keep replacing the fuses for now...

cheers

unless of course someone wiser than me ( most people :lol ) have other ideas

Speedo cluster is easy to remove, if your is like mine then there is a thin plastic film with copper tracks on. I've known these copper tracks break, a bit tricky to repair but not impossible if you trace the track back to a solid terminal.
Might be easier to get a new unit from Cncfab's?

hi guys a quick update and a few questions please if i may?

I took out the binacle and had a look at the printed circuit board on the back and the item in general and have to say i couldnt see anything obvious wrong with it....

However, what i have now noticed is that when i put it into reverse the fuse blows and the binacle goes off...

Now please be gentle here.....i am not an electrician and although i like to think i can fix most mechanical things electrics go straight over my head...

I do understand that there is a bad earth or bad connection somewhere but how do i find it...?
Should i start by taking out the lamp and checking and cleaning it along with a new bulb?
After that i am lost...
Would someone be able to check the wiring diagram for me and point me in the right direction please?

Cheers
Stephen

So.... you've found the fault but you don't know where it is.

First thing - you need to keep the circuit powered up to find the fault but fuses are expensive and excessive applications of high current damage wiring.

Connect a 21watt brake lamp bulb to the fuse contacts instead of the fuse - any short / current demand will now light the bulb instead of blowing a fuse.

It seems the short is related to the reverse switch ..... but have you removed the rear light cluster to see if the cables have been rubbing on the chassis and worn through the insulation? .... this will blow the fuse when you select reverse gear.

Hi Glen, thanks for the reply.

My initial plan was to remove the rear light cluster and make sure it is all dry and clean with no damage to the wiring....i will try and get it out tomorrow.

the bulb is a great idea...

just a quick update again....

Tonight i removed the bulb from the reverse light, selected reverse....the fuse blew
removed the fitting completely, selected reverse....the fuse blew

So where do i go now....?

Forward, by the sound of things...:nenau

Does the reverse light switch on the gearbox just ground the circuit.
ie one side of the reverse bulb is live all the time:nenau

Sounds like the two wires across the bulb are shorted.
Do you have a tow bar and socket, if so check the wiring in the socket, or where the wire exits the body, might have chaffed the cable.

Rustic

Totally agree, follow the wires from the bulb back .... it's there somewhere
