Legality wise the tread must be covered, not the wall of the tyre. BUT watch out on M/Ts as technically the tread runs down the wall of the tyre too :doh

Yeah Mate, that was what I was told by more than one company.

The tread (Not the side-wall) needs to be inside a vertical line drawn down from the outer edge of the wheel arch.
