Its the load sensing valve.I dont know where you would get one it looks in a pretty poor state when was it moted last

I wouldn't worry tbh

I'd remove it and set the valve to max pressure on rear, cannae beat braking hard in the wet at 70+ and the rear locking and coming round on you as you aproach a roundabout :p

I have abs anyway

MOT was last Jan or Feb. What does it do, is it brake related? I sort of recognise it but as its so far away from the drums i cant be sure what its purpose is - the brakes are working pretty good (hand brake holds nice, although was a failure last year)

Yes its brake related alters brake force depending on load if its seized it should fail the mot.Wouldnt remove it if you have an accident your insurance wouldnt pay out

I think it is an MOT fail! it lets the rear brakes apply more or less pressure depending on the load in the car. It does all look pretty rotten :(

ah ok then!

well, its never under any load at the moment so braking is fine. How do I go about getting a replacement? I assume its not just the spring? Is this a job I can do myself?

you could ask cnfabs or terranobreakers shropshire, they would know the ins and outs of removing the old one too :thumb2

Easy enough to remove just 2 bolts and a few brake pipes.I wouldnt sell a second hand one unless it looked quite new due to the nature of the part.Re fitting wise you will need to check and refit the pipes then blead the brakes.

ah bugger, remove brake pipes as well?

ah well, suppose ill have to do it. Where would I get one of these parts then, if its not advisable to use a used one?

Wow that looks rotten!!! Hope you get it sorted mate and it's not to much bother, keep us posted

aye, first time ive noticed it. Might explain previous issue with the handbrake maybe, but as these issues were "sorted" at MOT, I didnt realise I had a problem.

will not have any effect on the hand brake at all, I have one on my scrapper, but not looked at it so at the mo do not know what condition it is in, I have two swb off road mavs but do not know if the swb has them, if they do then I could have three to chose from, as I do not need them, but will not know till tomorrow, Rick

the swb base models do have them, i usualy spray mine with grease to keep them in decent condition :thumb2

Thanks rick, let me know, and how much you want for one!

Aye, I learned a lesson today, I'll keep mine greased when I get t fixed!

won't it only help if you pull or carry heavy loads?

don't know, probably, but I am sure it is an MOT fail if it doesn't work. So has to be fixed whether you like it or not = I think :nenau

Mot has no way of testing it, I have five at my disposal right now the two road going motors seem OK the two off road cars the lever moves but the pistons seem stuck in, got wife to press brake while I was looking and no difference, so I guess they are seized, the one on the scrapper is not seized but rusty as they all are, Clivvy you are welcome to it, I will try and find time to get it off later, do not want anything for it, just cover post and packing, and you accept it as is, I will be removing the one on the new off road motor so will be able to ascertain it's usefulness or not, Rick

ah thanks Rick, very generous of you!

I agree about the MOT, i suspect mines been broken or at least ineffective for a while, considering its current state, as Rick says, how can an MOT station test it? Im just not sure how it works, but i may as well go ahead and attempt to fix it!
