I seem to remember reading something on here before where someone had something similar and I could swear that it turned out to be a weight of some description inside the steering wheel

Apart from removing the battery before doing this to avoid airbag deployment is there anything else I should do?

I just have nightmares of me fixing this and then when I attach the battery back on I get the dreaded Air Bag light flashing on the dash :augie

as fez says it is some kind of balance/anti vibration thingy, which falls off its rubbers, just remove the plastic covers and extract it gently and sling it in the bin, Rick

Is it easy to get into the back of the steering wheel?

no need to touch air bag, there are 4 plastic covers on the underside of the wheel just prise them off and easy access, Rick

Ah nice!!!! So I could pop the cover off the back and just pull the offending item out?

I've whipped all 3 covers off the steering wheel and peered inside and I have found the offending loose item

It's the rusty looking rectangle with the black piece of foam stuck on it in the middle

Now my question is, will I be able to get that out without removing the steering wheel as I don't fancy my chances fishing round in there with fingers and screwdriver in fear of detonating the air bag

I looked at how I'd remove the wheel and I can see the torx screws that I've been told to look out for

Any ideas?

I grabbed mine with long nose pliers easy enough, Fiddle around in there with tool from the passenger seat so no chance of tool hurting you if it goes off.

I had recuring issues with resetting my airbag light after disconnecting it so I'd leave it connected electrically.

Is it worth whipping the battery off while I'm doing it?
