Hi All, I'm waiting to get fired upon now but I think it's worth mentioning anyway.
We've had a real dose of Snow with heavy drifting in many places. Remember people die in conditions like this. A lot of us have had some real good fun this weekend and come back safely.
Please take a moment to think about your truck and kit you carry to protect yourself and others in the vehicle. It's all too easy to suffer from the cold. I'm sure you don't need me to list loads of kit to carry with you. The lane where I had a close shave yesterday a landy got stuck, a bloke and his wife with no extra clothing like waterproof coats, gloves and worst of all not even a shovel.

Just stay safe guys:thumb2

May be worth replying a starting a list of kit to carry? not just for winter conditions.

well said jim :thumb2 , i always carry a bag of rock salt

Well said, you do not need to be far from home and get stuck, if you are poorly prepared you can get cold very quickly, specially if your engine dies, I always have a full tank of fuel and regularly check the motor over in these conditions, hence when it took 5 hour to go 5 miles on Monday 11th I was warm as toast and plenty of fuel, together with drinks and warm clothing, my motor is not one that can be abandoned as it is full of tools and kit, it would be broken into in no time, so I have to be prepared to stay with it, Rick

We carry the following, Some of which lives in the car, and some of which I put in when it snows.

A broom with an extending handle, great for cleaning the snow off of all the windows, bonnet and lights.
A folding shovel
2 containers of rock salt
jump leads
Tow rope
Travel blanket
Extra coats, heated gloves, silly hat that makes you look like you have floppy dogs ears, but keeps you incredibly warm.

After seeing a post on here, going to look at finding somewhere to put the highlift jack as well.

myself i always take plenty of supplies when i go laning whether its snowing or not, today we had two carrier bags full of food and plenty of drinks and blankets etc. aswell as shovel :thumbs

Had shovel and straps/links today used the shovel to recover myself once and the straps and shovel twice to get other cars I found stuck on the lanes

Health and bloody safety is the death of this country :doh
However Jim you're right and on this occasion I agree :clap that's confused a bunch I bet :lol
I volunteer for 4x4 response and have "worked" a lot to help others in the last lot of snow our way. It's all to easy to get all cocky having fun and taking the piss out of others BUT cold kills, and in so many ways
So yeh let's put up a "Good Practice" page thingy :thumbs

Jim,
A really good post.:thumb2:thumb2

We just need to think sometimes, I would hate to walk even half a mile with that fine snow blowing from the east...

Well done:thumb2

if im going to work just my lunch box and flask .if im going out with the mrs and kids lots of grub and drinks. shovel and a full tank of fuel cant see the point of rock salt if your 3 foot into a drift it wont make any difference:thumb2

I always keep provisions in my terrano, food that the MOD get, so you either cook it with the rad water or on the turbo:thumb2

Won't make that much difference in a snow drift, but generally, if it is snowing, it is also freezing at night.

When I was staying in the lake district a couple of winters ago, I parked the car on a hill, and over night the water from melted snow that had been trickling down the hill re-froze, leaving my tyre on the only bit of un-iced road. Every time I tried to pull away, the car slid sideways nearer and nearer the other parked car. Some rock salt spread round the front tyres (Front wheel drive car), and I was able to pull away and get up onto the flat.

OOOHH RAT pack's? where do you get them:rolleyes:

Glad you all like the post, Makeitfit's right. How about a Good Practice thread.

Some of the training I've had over the last couple of years has really brought it home to me how important it is to be prepared and not in a cub scout way either.
